if that was the case, then nobody would think Barry Sanders was any good. during his 10 seasons with the Lions, the Lions went 78-82 (win pct of 48.8%)
but yeah, to all the people freaking out that the thread title says "A&M's Johnny Football is better than Cam Newton," i choose that title to stir up responses to the thread. all I'm saying is that when it comes to total offense, Johnny Manziel is putting up better numbers that Cam Newton did after 6 games, and he might very well finish the season with better total offense numbers that Cam Newton. if he does, does that make Manziel better than Cam Newton? of course not, but it's still pretty freaking impressive, no? was Josh Reed as WR in college as good as Cam Newton was as QB in college? no, but it's still pretty impressive that Josh Reed is #1 in SEC history in receiving yards gained in both a single season (1,740) and in a single game (293 vs Alabama). but back to Manziel...
consider the following:
1) Manziel has only played in 6 career games, and he is already #1 and #2 in SEC history when it comes to total yards of offense in a single game (576 yards against La Tech last game, and 557 yards vs Arkansas 3 games ago).
Tim Tebow's best? 533 yards vs. Cincinnati in 2009 (#5 in SEC history)
Peyton Manning's best? 508 yards vs. Kentucky in 2007 (#11 in SEC history)
Cam Newton's best? 408 yards vs. both Kentucky and South Carolina in 2010 (not even top 25 in SEC history)
2) Manziel is averaging 392.7 yards per game of total offense (370 vs the 3 SEC teams he's faced: Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss
he keeps that up, he's going to go down as #1 in SEC history when it comes to most yards per game of total offense in a season:
YARDS PER GAME, SEASON
(Johnny Manziel now -- 392.7 -- after 6 games)
#1 in SEC history -- 377.4 - Tim Couch, 1998 (finished #4 in Heisman voting that year)
#2 in SEC history -- 354.2 — Rex Grossman, 2001 (finished #2 in Heisman voting that year)
#5 in SEC history -- 321.6 - Tim Tebow, 2007 (won the Heisman that year)
#7 in SEC history -- 315.8 - Peyton Manning, 1997 (finished #2 in Heisman voting that year)
#9 in SEC history -- 309.1 - Cam Newton, 2010 (won the Heisman that year)

well, let's take a gander at what Cam did and what Manziel is facing. note that Cam finished 4 of his 9 SEC games with under 300 yards of total offense, and Manziel has only done that once, so he still has plenty of room to have a few more down games and still beat Cam Newton when it comes to total offense per game)
