It looks like the rightwingers are wanting to start a meme of calling Democrats people OF THE OTHER FAITH. You know, as opposed to the good Christian faith of the Republicans.

Cheney first used the term in a Republican-only "town hall" meeting, then it gets repeated within two questions from the audience. One of those two questions even uses the word "demonizes" as part of the same thought.

These are canned, pre-scripted meetings, and not true "town hall meetings" at all, so it's a fair bet that Cheney/Rove were complicit in the wording of the questions.

I have a question for you rex. Do you believe yourself and your views to be that of mainstream democrats? This is a serious question. I'm not being a smartass.

Independent. I vote Democrat because I don't wish to waste my vote... so I guess I'm a Democrat in practice, although not technically... So I guess it makes very little difference.

Then what about this statement is untrue.

And just so you know, when he says "other faith", he's not refering to religious faith. He is stating that the other side (Democrats) believe in a different way than he does on this issue. And by the way, there are also some republicans of the "other faith", meaning that they don't support the changes that are suggested.
