When did you start using the name "Death Valley" to describe LSU's Football stadium? I honestly don't know, and there is a "disscussion" :dis: on our boards as to who named their stadium "Death Valley" first. You guys or our red headed step children in clempson SC. I hate to bother you guys with our idiot rivals delusions of grandeur but I thought since this is the dark period, what the hell else is there to talk about. Oh, they also claim the played "Tiger Rag" first but that is a whole other kettle of fish. GO COCKS!!!
I'll have the answer in a few -- I know its in a book somewhere, just have to find it... UPDATE: Found 'why' it was named, but not when
Found it -- even have references: This is from "Greatest Moments in LSU Football History" on pg. 17 Tiger Stadium was named "Death Valley" in 1958 when we went undefeated at home for 2 years.
According to a Clemson Sports website I'm looking at, the Stadium is refered to as "Memorial Stadium" in every entry on the timeline until 1966. So if that's the case, then we've got 'em by 9 years. http://www.thetigernet.com/football/history/timeline.jsp
Well they claim that a Presbyterian coach called it (the fake one in SC) that in the 40's but the name never really took off until Frank Howard (clempsons coach) started calling it that in the 50's. The tater that was posting on our board said that yalls stadium was originally called Deaf Valley and it grew into Death Valley after their stadium (of course :dis: ). I guess the debate continues. BTW this kind of stuff just gets under their skin which is the reason we bring it up so much. Here is a link to clempsons site that talks about the origins of their stadium, But be forwarned. There is an awful lot of Prison orange to look at. http://clemsontigers.ocsn.com/trads/clem-trads.html Thanks for the research.
You were right about the colors: MY EYES HURT! I love purple, BUT TO COMBINE IT WITH HUNTER ORANGE???!! It's an offense to the eyes.
