1. Fishhead you are correct, I do agree that ND didn't "deserve" to be in the Sugar Bowl. My post was just my perspective on some of the comments made throughout this thread. I think you and lsutiga some it up best. It reflects back to one of my earlier post regarding Oklahoma. It doesn't matter whether they deserved to be their or not, they got waxed and that's it.

Now, I could argue that they deserved to be in the Fiesta Bowl last year, which would go against the popular opinion year that everytime ND gets a bid it isn't deserved. In fact, while that game is counted as another blowout for ND (600+ yards by the other team will do that), they were actually in a position to stop Ohio St. and make a game of it w/ 2-3 minutes. That has a little to do w/ some of the preseason hype they got.

Having said all of that, as a ND fan I don't care if they deserve it or not, I'm glad they got the bid and I was able to go see them. I actually enjoy watching everyone get all worked up over it.
  2. Did you forget LSU blew away Miami in the Peach Bowl?

Sure we can. Arkansas and Tennessee were knocked out of the top-10 by LSU, like Alabama and Miami last year. We'll take credit for that.

We can go by wek 17 BCS rankings if you wish. Notre Dame played three ranked teams in 2006 (Michigan #3, LSU #4 and USC #7). LSU played five (Florida #2, Auburn #10, Notre Dame #11, Arkansas #13, and Tennessee #18)

And for that reason, I believe Bayou Irish is wrong about the SOS being similar. That being said, Bayou Irish is OK. He knows that ND didn't belong on the field with us the other night, and like Tiga said, anybody that thinks otherwise need only check the final score. Other than the SOS, I agree with Bayou that ND isn't absolutely terrible like a lot of us are saying. Just go along with that, because it makes us look better since we beat the tar out of them.:thumb:
  4. OK, Ten & Ark were nocked out of the top ten after loosing to LSU, but then both schools lost again afterwards. In fact, Ten. will be lucky if they stay ranked in the top 25.
As far as Miami, my comment was more about top 10 teams. Miami finished around 16-17 last year.

In the end, it will never matter who ND plays or beats, some people (including most LSU fans) will say they didn't deserve it. I'm fine with that. As long as none of you are voting in the polls, selecting BCS bids, etc.
  5. He is, indeed. It takes two sides to make a discussion.
  6. They were ranked 9th when we beat them 40-3 with our backup QB! That was the week 17 BCS rank last year, so the ONLY reason they fell to 16 or 17 is because we thrashed them in the bowl game. And seriously, if ND were to have at least showed up against one of the three really tough teams they played this year, people wouldn't be saying this. It's the fashion in which they lost those three games that makes people question their belonging in the BCS.

  7. I am sure you have already been reamed in this thread (I haven't read through it yet), but some thoughts come to mind immediately.

    1. So you think you deserve to be in every year, even if you lose 3 games? Which brings me to point 2

    2. So if you get into these elite bowl games, you don't mind having your brains bashed in every time and having your worse-ever losing streak continue?

    3. And you actually compare LSU's run this year to your run? You can't see how it is different? And certainly you know that LSU wasn't trying to buy its way into anything. It's just that some of our west coast idiots out here do not know the first thing about the SEC, nor do they usually care, and some of them didn't know how LSU might travel to this game. Sure, ND has a great following nationwide. LSU is no slouch either, but it was a matter of educating some people with the Rose Bowl and the proof was in the pudding (ticket sales, dude).

Any questions? I didn't think so. Adios, coullion.

  8. Buy our way in? Hell, we purchased 42,000 tickets for the Rose before the bowl match ups were even published. That's not buying our way in. That's Tiger fans wanting to watch our beloved team beat the crap out of somebody.

We probably had around 60,000 at the Sugar. That means your "great fans" only brought a pitiful 15k or so. We poor Louisiana folk, on the other hand, would have filled at least half of the Rose. Your "fans" suck.
  9. Preach on, brutha. Can I get an AMEN
  10. Who said anything about 'deserve'. With ND's strenth of schedule, losing only two to three games is a major accomplisment and will likely have ND ranked in the top #12. From there, the BCS bowls, after matching up the number one and number two teams, will select teams that will bring the most money to those respective bowls. ND, with its national fan base, will always get selected in such a situation. Just like LSU used its fan support to line itself up to play Michigan in the Rose Bowl.
