A New Orleans man is in critical condition after being shot in the chest.....with an arrow. Those who wish to do harm will find a weapon. http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2018/02/man_shot_arrow_lower_9th_ward.html#incart_breaking
it is true, HOWEVER; anti gun crowds will see this as an “a-ha” moment and say because it was only one person
That’s exactly what I said! Imagine the FL shooter with a bow and arrow vs AR style weapon. There’s your answer. Oh, I am not anti-gun, either.
I’d be pretty hypocritical if I advocated taking away someone’s right to own or use something so that something doesn’t end up in the hands of the wrong people or children. I’m not entirely sure people need to own AR 15’s but if you told me I could own a rocket launcher i’d probably have one as a conversation piece so I will not sit here and say take away law abiding citizen’s rights just so I can mask this illusion of safety in a country where the gun is just a tool and if someone is so inclined to kill they are going to use any means necessary.
So what if there was an age restriction on the purchase of these guns? Like you would have to be 21 to purchase. Most of these school shootings are y people under 21. That could stem it a little I would think. I still cant figure out why someone thinks they need one of these rifles but then, they have been around since the 50s and it only became an issue in the last 20 or so years. That brings me back to the original post I made on this - its a social behavioral issue
I get a lot of the meme's I've been posting lately from my brother, who is a retired Marine and even more conservative than me. I thought this one really pushed the envelope, so I wasn't going to post it, but since you had that phrase, here we go.....
The problem with this is the same as with every other gun restriction suggesting being proposed.....it only hinders the law abiding. Laws don't deter law breakers. I saw this concept on Facebook, but I've taken it a step further. The common denominator with mass shooters seems to be that they grow up as societal misfits. They're the ones usually eating lunch by themselves at school. American schools are being very proactive in trying to stop bullying by engaging students in fighting it..."if you see something, say something." The schools need to start a similar concept to encourage inclusion of these misfits. I have no idea if it would really help, but another common denominator, at least in the school shootings, is hearing from students after the fact who say all the students knew the shooter had problems and was likely to go off. That knowledge has to be put to a proactive use if we're going to stop these massacres before they occur.
Apples and people, my friend. Comparing the civil rights of a human being to the “neato” factor of showing off something you’ll probably never use in a real world situation is a little different. I get where you’re going, though.
That's part of the reason I didn't post it right off the bat. The 'need' vs rights' point is valid, but, as you said.... I only posted it because LaSalle made the "why do people need this gun" comment.
