I agree 100% with you. So . . . If society is no longer the same, maybe access to guns, or mags, or bump stocks should not be the same, either. If we can’t fix the root cause, we are faced with either ignoring the issue, or doing what we can. I own many guns, including semi autos, but I am also a father, and I taught in a middle school for 12 years. It is inconceivable to me to just wring my hands.
You giving up your guns won't prevent a single mass shooter incident but it may one day prevent you from defending yourself and your family. Such incidents are tragic, yes but what good would it do to pass some ineffective laws and pat yourself on the back and tell yourself "We did something."
First of all “cars” are never a good arguments in a gun debate since you have to be licensed to drive one, you must register them, annually, and in NC, maddeningly, they must be inspected annually - hope you guys don’t have that. I won’t hold the car analogy against you. My view, which has changed over time, is that it is kind of a “common good” kind of thing. IRT guns, I am willing to give up some of my rights to make things safer, for all. Just a personal opinion. The solution isnot just guns, it’s society (care and treatment of mentally ill) and it’s, what I think is the neglected aspect, deterrence via timely, cruel and unusual punishment for offenders of any crime in which a gun is used.
Mental health issues are definitely something to look into. But I am not sure limiting rounds would have stopped it, only reduced what he could do, unless he used more than one weapon at a time
