Advocate column addresses the "Auburn is best SEC-W team" crapola

Discussion in 'The Tiger's Den' started by Victory4LSU, Nov 27, 2005.

  1. I agree that 'they' is not auburn, 'they' is ESPN. One of my favorite quotes from 'them' is from 2003 when we beat Ga at home and we were told that the best team did not win in that game. I didn't hear any reprisals on that one after the season.

I've been really sick of hearing about the 5 missed field goals by ESPN analyst, football announcers, and some Auburn fans. I've been waiting to see if someone in the media would come to our rescue to defend that we would have won the game no matter what; if all of the missed scoring opportunities on both sides of the ball were counted.

Where are these ESPN analyst minds? They keep on bringing up the 5 missed field goals by Auburn, but fail to mention anything about the 2 missed sure touchdown passes in the end zone and a couple of field goals we missed during the game. They mentioned the 2 easily catchable dropped passes in the end zone maybe once or twice 1 or 2 days after the Auburn game that I noticed, but they put more of an emphasis on Auburn's missed opportunities, not LSU's. But as of late, they don't even mention our missed opportunities, only Auburn's 5 missed field goals and how they should have won the game. :po:

Sounds as though through their own personal bias they are really trying to control or affect how the polsters vote or at least have some kind of influence (not to mention how the bowl selection committee votes). They sure are affecting how some people or fans might think and feel about the Auburn game, and who should be in the SEC Championship game.

Seems as though these certain ESPN analyst and certain football announcers throughout the country might also be trying to control which teams around the country they would like to see remain in power. Teams such as the historical high traditional winning programs that have a large fan base, which in turn potentially may bring in more revenue in their minds. If that would be the case, we certainly would fill in that space nicely! We have tradition and a large fan base, maybe not a large number of national championships.

Anyway, I feel relieved that Carl Dubois came to our rescue and thank him for it. I just hope that his article circulates throughout the country. I'm definitely sending it to some friends. :thumb:

I read the responses and didn't see a single post blaming auburn fans for anything. THe article doesn't refer to "they" as the fans of auburn. The author refers to the national media's comments not auburn fans.
Maybe you didn't read the entire article or just didn't comprehend what it says.

I should have posted the link to the article. I made an incorrect assumption that folks knew what the advocate is. I also made an incorrect assumption that the internet hadn't reached most auburn fans, thus thinking they would not be reading the post.

LSU earned its way to Atlanta, but if I had to stake my life on a team winning a game for me at this point in the season, picking LSU over Auburn wouldn't be an easy choice.

That is true. The general consensus I've seen from AU fans - not just on message boards - is that Auburn is playing better football than they were earlier in the season, perhaps better than anyone else in the SEC at this time, but they didn't beat LSU when they had the chance. 'Nuff said.

LSU deserves to represent the West in the SECC, period.

I wouldn't trust what Herbie has to say anyway .... he's too busy with his man-crush for Nick Leshay to keep up with CFB these days :hihi:

I think ESPN is overly compensating for Auburn based on TT's comments earlier this year. Looking back, they really didn't start blowing Auburn's horn until TT made his comments. Ever since then, Kirk and the rest have not been able to say enough about how good Auburn is.

Either way, the only way ESPN's "best team" will be in the Georgia Dome is if they have a ticket.
