I expected comments like this from Aubies The case has been diverted, which is legit when it's a juvenile offender. It'll remain confidential because of that status also. He was caught with .14 and Bama has the law of .08. It's being handled internally as far as his punishment is concerned.
Re: I expected comments like this from Aubies I may be wrong, but I thought he was 19. Is not 18 the cut off for juvenile status? I am not for ruining some kid's life, most of us have done some really dumb stuff. He should know how close he came to losing his freedom for a long time, and what that means. And more importantly, how his lack of judgement could cause others untold grief.
He's 20, and it's a different standard when it comes to DUI's as compared to other crimes. I don't discount the severity of this at all. JPW is just beginning to pay for this...and that's only from the "football standpoint." I would have died if I had to go through what he did yesterday in practice. And that's only the beginning of it..
Re: I expected comments like this from Aubies The limit in Louisiana is .08 (obviously). For those under 21 the limit is .02 and the penalties are less (max fine $250, including sub. abuse and driver improvement programs). (click here for the statute) However, when someone under 21 tests over .08 then the adult laws, and penalties, apply. Alabama law might be different.
The limit in Alabama is also .08. First offenders face a misdemeaner charge, punishible by imprisonment of not more than than one year, or a fine of between $600-1200, or both. There is also a 90-day revocation of the driver's license and requirement to attend a court-appointed substance abuse program.
He's been suspended. The staff will look at it again Sunday if he's completed the work he's been required to do. His family is taking this to another level. Right now his car is parked in the garage at his home in Hoover and I don't think they'll let him have it for a while.
