Regardless whether this is true or not, this year's recruiting effort will be a wash for Bama. Saban will have to wait until next year.
But he stated he was going to run what LSU ran this year not exactly what he ran when he was LSU. Similar though but I question the athletes he currently has to run our style of offense and defense.
He won a NC with LSU, true. But he didn't do it running the schemes that LSU ran in this past Sugar Bowl. Saban uses the Sugar Bowl example because of its great success & his ability to make it appear like he can take lots of credit for it - not because it is true.
Opinion, or is there something you are basing this on? Stars? It's a solid class, right now. It won't be rated as high as schools who are bring in 23-25 (as in rated by recruiting services) simply because of the #'s we have available. 16 slots, if I recall correctly. A lot of depth with the exception of two positions; LB's and DT's. By depth, I mean the type of players that are a fit for the scheme Saban runs.
Everybody uses the Rivals and Scout start system to evaluate relative strengths of teams recruiting because nobody can see all of these playaers and evaluate them ourselves. Sure, it doesn't tell you if a team is filling the positions that it needs, which is damned important. But it does indicate who is hauling in the blue chippers. In this decade the top recruiting schools have been USC, Texas, Florida, LSU, Ohio State and Georgia. All but Georgia have won National Championships. Those 5- and 4-star players are what a team needs to rise to the top. Saban knows this and recruitied well for LSU, as has Miles. This year, Bama is landing some good plaayers, but not like the top-10 teams are doing. Bama needs a couple of top-10 recruting classes very badly. Right now Les has sixteen 4-star players committed and is recruiting only 5- and 4-star players for the remaining positions. Pretty damned good, I'd say. Next year is Nicks year to show how he can recruit at Bama.
