Excellent point. I wonder how many will show up for cheerleader tryouts. Might as well attend everything, yea?
From what I understand it was the offense A team and defensive B team vs the Offensive B team and defensive A team. No surprise there were no big numbers put up on either side because of the match up and # of plays executed (time was not stopped on incompletions) , since it was two hand toouch and your ruled tackled for return men and qbs, there were some qb fumbles nd posssible big returns that werent scored. but all in all, i think its bad to look at the first spring game and make assumptions, that might hurt in the end. i think they looked fine, Alabama looks to have alot more penetration than last year on the deffensive side, but since they played theirselves, cant really judge how well other teams would do.
Just hit the TIVO to see...yep, right on that one. Just forgot. Can I blame the forgetfullness on the lack of GHT in my beer?
Because we've never really emphasized the spring game. Some coaches hate it and Les Miles is one of them . . . Nick wasn't wild about it either. Some LSU coaches never held spring games. Les wouldn't be havng one if the AD didn't mandate it. But the fans like it and its a big PR celebration. The first two springs, Les only ran a controlled scrimage and it was b-o-o-o-o-ring. Also LSU used to hold spring practice this time of year and unlike this spring, it was usually freakin' hot and played in the afternoon. Worse it often conflicted with baseball (a very big deal at LSU) as the AD tried to schedule an afternoon spring game and a night baseball game. But three things happened this year that will increase future spring game attendance. The Athletic Department has noted that some schols around the country that promote the spring game are not only getting good fan PR, but are making money on it. Ding!!! So this year the AD promoted the game heavily, including free internet tickets. Next year promotion will be even bigger. The AD convinced Les Miles to get on board and change the format from a practice-type scrimmage to almost a real football game. Word was slow to get out about this, but next season people will be expecting a true spring game. LSU began spring football practice a month earlier than usual. Not only did the team enjoy cooler spring weather, but the fans enjoyed a much cooler afternoon game. In the future, with proper promotion, the early spring schedule, and a full-game format, LSU can also bring in big crowds. if they play the baseball game in the early afternoon and play the spring game at night, it will feel more like an LSU game experience and bring in more fans with the whole tailgating rig.
No, but Bammeristas are very "coach-centric". They love that image of a legendary coach who is in charge and they think they may have found another. At LSU, we rally around our legendary stadium and our live Tiger and our famous fan enthusiasm. Coaches are basically interchangeable. If they don't work out, we go get a better one. Remember how depressed LSU was in the early 90's? We had never suffered that kind of football poverty before. Bama has been like that in this century. These guys are busting a gut to be back in the top tier of the SEC and they are just exited about Nick. Now its up to him. But remember . . . any success Nick has in his first four years cannot be credited to him. He's just playing with Mike Shulas recruits!
Yes, that is a perfectly legal excuse. Kind of sad it took them this long to see what a recruiting and PR factor it can be. If the average fan can see it, you would think ole Les would have changed his mind about the game by now. However, the results without the Spring game focus are quite decent (And I expect them to change it up next year). :thumb:
