Apparently very few people remember the reason for the BCS.. to take the decisions out of the hands of biased media and unattentive coaches. By decreasing the computer rankings and removing the SOS, they have basically negated the purpose of it all. The key would be to make the computers better, more accurate, and completely eliminate the human element. THey need to get Hawkings and a few other geniuses together and let htem come up with the "e=mc^2" of football formulas and stick it in the computers.

Now it just seems like team should make their OOC schedule as easy as possible. What happens if a team roars through an easy schedule undeafeted and another team, for example any team in the SEC, loses a game or two....then the voters will of course vote for the undefeated team.

Look at last year, if the BCS formula would've been this way last season, USC would've went to the Sugar Bowl simply because they're the media favorite.

We desperately need a playoff system.

True, it is to your advantage to schedule easy teams.

Unfortunately LSU is in the SEC and USC is in the FudgePac-10. Nuff said.

Also, by eliminating the losses as a component of your overall score, this will hinder the TCU's of this world who could end up undefeated and still not make the BCS bowls, even with them expanding in a couple of years with 2 more teams involved.

Pete Fiutek absolutely has it right in his article at the CFN website. AP writers and coaches will not make a fair evaluation of every team playing every one of it's games. The new system blows and it will be worse than before. And DO NOT look for any love to be thrown LSU's way by any of the AP hacks. :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :usaflagwa :usaflagwa

I guarantee you that the AP will get their pretty boy team in this year. They hated the fact that they couldn't decide the national champion. Last year you couldn't pound an opponet and move up in rankings. Now that is out so there is only one thing to do, stomp everybody by 50 pts!

A real playoff system makes too much sense to liberal college presidents, so never will be implemented. They prefer to hold the fans and the game hostage.

-Divide Division 1A into 8 conferences each playing a championship game. Weaker teams can go back to division 1AA where they belong.

-The week after the last conference championship has been decided, the 8 conference champions play the four first round playoff games, with the top seeded teams hosting the lowest seeded teams as in any other playoff system. The BCS system can be used for the seeding or any other agreed upon system.

-The four semifinal playoff first round winners play in two of the current BCS bowl games on a rotating basis with the two winners to play for the national championship in a new college super bowl game to be played one week after the semifinal bowl games are played.

-The four losers from the first round playoff games play consolation games in the other two BCS bowl games, maintaining top-notch quality match ups in those two bowl games. Next year, it will be their turn to host the semifinal playoff games on a regular rotating basis.

-Everything else remains the same, untouched, and intact as for as the remainder of the bowl system is concerned. The bowl games will continue to be played and the teams picked just like they have always been.

There it is short and sweet with a minimum of teams playing a minimum of games to decide a true national championship, and the best thing about it is it is decided 100 percent on the field with no subjective polls used except to decide the seeding. Moreover, it not only preserves the present bowl system it enhances it, and the money would come pooring in.

How many split NC's were there before the BCS came into effect, I think there were pretty many. That is when the BCS computers would have an effect. And it isn't just the media having their way, the coaches will have just as much impact on who plays in the championship game and that just may even be worse.

sure there would be tons more money if a playoff system was implented but it wouldn't be allocated the same. that's why we are in this quagmire of hell. Its no different than PACS and our government. a vicious cycle with no end in sight at least til 2010 and prolly not even then.

You missed the point though. I can not recall a time when both human polls did not have the same two teams as the top two. Not necesarrily ranked the same as you indicate split polls pre-BCS but usually the same two teams comprise the top 2 in each poll.

The tiems I can remember when there were split champs pre-BCS, it is because the two polls simply had 1 & 2 opposite of one another.

You hit the nail right on the head. I was going to do a survey of the past 25 years or so to see how many times the AP/Coaches polls disagreed on their top 2 teams. I would be shocked if it's happened more than once in the past 25 years.

If the top 2 teams in the polls get ALL the 1st and 2nd place votes, then the computer polls will NOT help the 3rd place team out at all. The computer poll only comes into play if the 2nd place team is a weak 2nd place and the 3rd place team is a strong 3rd place in the polls.
