Army officers never leave behind a wounded comrade. Many of Amp Hill’s teammates were determined to nurture the injured wide receiver back to health as well.

Two years removed from a season-ending leg injury in fall camp, the third-year sophomore registered 80 yards on four receptions in Saturday’s final spring scrimmage in Tiger Stadium.

The process took time, Hill said. The injury during his freshman season marked the first of his career and re-injuring it last season made him more cautious.

“When I first started out in the spring, I guess I was still kind of favoring it a little bit,” Hill said. “It’s tough mentally to be confident enough to go out and play on it and make the same kind of cuts that I used to make. The first couple of practices I started getting more and more confident and trying to get back to where I was before I hurt it.”

Fellow wide receiver Dwayne Bowe said he encouraged Hill to play without fear throughout spring drills.

“He’s been gradually getting better and better,” said Bowe, who made two grabs for 47 yards and a touchdown in the scrimmage. “I told him before the spring game, ‘This is going to be your spring. Last year was mine. You’re going to be the go-to guy. You’ve got to go make plays. Just go out there and stay focused and you’re going to improve yourself.’”

You have to love how Bowe encourages his competition/teammate. So glad to see this and Amp having some success. :geauxtige LSU!
