And even the path to conference title games go through easier schools for some (UGA) than others (LSU). Conference championship games have to mean something in the NC picture, otherwise they can only be a liability if key players get injured, or they lose, dropping out of the top 4. It's like a reverse play-in game, where #1 is penalized and has to play their way in while #2 rests up and is assured a spot in the NC tournament. In fact, under this scenario, it's possible for one team to face another 3 times to win the NC, between the regular season, conference championship and NC games.
I disagree. That second bite at the apple was earned by playing in the toughest conference last year. Bama was much more deserving than our hypothetical 6 win Podunk Conference champion. The national champion, if determined by a 4 team playoff, should be played by the top 4 ranked teams.
