SKIP calls Terry Bradshaw who in turn calls Bill Cowher. LSU Legend to Louisiana/Steelers Legend to Steelers Legend He is a D guy which covers the Pelini issue at the same time. Recruiting is simple wear a nice suit, put on your Superbowl ring, parade the prospect around the trophy room, show em a hiesman trophy, a couple of crystal footballs, a half dozen sugarbowl trophies, 9 soon to be 10 SEC Championship trophies. Bill Cowher is our guy(if we need a guy). Get on the bandwagon people, if we want to talk coaches lets talk coaches not wannabes or soon to be fired Not For Longers. PS GO TO HELL OLE MISS!!!!
I heard rumblings about Jim Harbaugh (also a Michigan guy) after Stanford beat USC, but those have died down some.
Jason Garrett is an intersting angle. Haven't heard that one before. His lack of HC experience and unproven recruiting ability would probably exclude him, but it's interesting nonetheless. As for Del Rio, that's who I was hoping for when Miles was hired.
Personally, Del Rio was who I wanted too but it seemed like LSU wouldn't wait till his season was finished. I think they wanted somebody quick to try and get RP turned towards LSU. But anyway, Del Rio is the one I wanted too. I came up with Garrett because of Sean Payton's success. For some reason, how Payton approaches things, the media, his team, it reminds of Saban a little. So after Payton's success, I said to myself I wonder what would have happened if LSU had dropped $2.5 mil on him when he was the Cowboy's QB coach or whatever he was....passing game coordinator. I think we could have had him.....maybe not, but maybe. I always hear Garrett's name mentioned as an up and comer like Payton was so bring the guy in and if he is really committed to the college game and has a good interview, think about it. It's hard for a coordinator to turn down $2.5 mil at an SEC school unless they have a path to an NFL head coaching job in their immediate future, IMO.
That's what I'm talking about. See, if Cowher is LSU's guy (hard to get obviously) then pursue him until he gets a restraining order on Skip. The go to choice #2. Make a wish list and see what happens.
Many here in Dallas feel that Phillips was hired mainly to provide some experience-building time for Garrett in the NFL. Some feel he will become the next Dallas Cowboys head coach.
I knew he was an up and comer. When the Saints hired Payton they said the NFL furnishes tapes of mock interviews with assistant coaches for NFL teams to review to start their search for head coaches. May not be a bad place to get info on other coaches like Garrett just as a tool to get names of coaches to look at....not necessarily hire.
pro ball does not equal college ball. we want a spread O type coach (writing is on the wall --pro-set is dead), and give pelini at least $1 mil/yr.
