Take a few liberal goals loathed by conservatives (civil rights; individual rights) mixed in with some communist stuff, and then for extra spice put in some of the institutions championed by the right (that would die, unless they could be tied to communism), you have the recipe for anyone who doesn't like the right-wing's statist view of the world must be a commie, aka Joe McCarthy 101. I particularly like these two communist ideals: "Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government." As we can see, the right's disdain for the rights of man and for free elections was thoroughly embedded 40 years ago. "Do away with all loyalty oaths" Communism, no doubt. And of course all of the take control of the newspapers and t.v. means, unless they promote right-wing statist policy, then they must be communnists
