You will be able to gauge things by how well they do against Georgia. http://www.southernpigskin.com/page.cfm?story=11438&cat=exclusives If they beat Georgia at home in Athens you can start to sweat.
I was thinking the same thing, especially the way Kentucky finished last season and their returning QB. Still, we should be able to handle them and I feel better about S. Carolina since their big-time WR left early for the NFL. The most likely scenario is losing one of the other tough games. Hopefully Tiger Stadium will start rocking for the Hokies and continue all season for the most big games at home that I can remember.
Yes ,I agree, times have changed .We beat Tennessee in Knoxville for only about the second time in LSU history last year.Hopefully that takes care of that monkey off our backs. But until we actually beat Spurrier I don't think we can claim it will be easy pickins. And hey ...as a friend of mine used to say when we played basketball....I've hit one in a row ....I'M hot...
Jackie Sherrill's MSU teams beat LSU twice. Jackie's MSU teams never lost to Steve Spurriier in Starkville. While at Florida, Spurrier won on the road at every SEC school except for Mississippi State. Go Dawgs! ClaraDawg
Clara, I could be wrong and have a hard time believing this myself but I think South Carolina is the team under the radar this year and has a shot at the SEC Championship Game. Crazy, I know. They do return some hosses: Blake Mitchell- who threw for 1,789 yds, including 10 TD's; Cory Boyd who rushed for over 800 yards, Syvelle Newton is gone but Kenny McKinley had 51 catches for over 800 yds. They have big questions on the 3 interior line positions that were vacated but the 2006 recruiting class was heavy on linemen. Sophomore Garrett Anderson, for one- a 6-4, 300-pounder who had a good showing in the spring and appears to be a keeper at left guard. Could get interesting and this game, for LSU, does concern me- I think where it falls on our schedule is a plus- after Middle Tenn. and before Tulane so there shouldn't be any "Looking ahead".
I, for one, don't think that Spurrier will ever regain his once-dominating ways as a coach in the SEC. There is simply too much parity in The Conference now, and the type of system that he used to run is only effective in non-BCS leagues. Don't get me wrong, I believe that he will certainly bring SC to a respectable level, but he'll never make them the powerhouse that UF was back in the day. The game itself doesn't particularly concern me. Our players aren't so young that they wouldn't grasp the meaning of whooping Darth Visor's butt in Tiger Stadium.
