The fact is the SEC overall doesn't get the respect nationwide it deserves. I think coaches should first and foremost have loyalty to their universities but they should also feel a sense of loyalty to the conference they represent. In my eyes Spurrier dissed the SEC by not plugging the conference when he had a chance. Like Holtz voting Southern Cal # 1 after LSU manhandled his team on his own field. Spurrier is so well known in the media he can/will be a big asset not only to his team, but the SEC also, if he is willing to step up and do so, which may require him to put his ego aside every now and then.

You guys can whine about USC's schedule all you want, but the facts are that Carroll has put USC in a position to win another NC, he's loss 3 games in the last 3 seasons and he recruits just like Saban and Stoops, getting the best of the best. And he has gotten better each year for 3 years in a row.

I do believe Saban is in the top 5 along with those 2, Coker and Bowden. Of course I'll get flamed for mentioning those 2 also but results are results and those 4 guys are in the mix year in and year out.

And yes Carroll has benefited from a great OC, that's part of being a great HC getting the right people on your staff, no coach can do it alone.

And Carroll had one hell of a lot of success in the NFL as an assistant, just like Nich had. he aslo went into a very fractured program at USC and brought everyone together and has them all working together. And to be quite frank, I'd just as soon play our schedule this year as USC's. While we have probably played one more very good team than they did in UGA (ASU may be just as good as UGA), they have played more average to good teams than we have as the SEC is very weak this year also. I wouldn't say Bama and UF were any harder than VA Tech or Notre Dame. I wouldn't say that Arkansas and Ole Miss were any better than Stanford or Oregon. I wouldn't say that Vandy and Troy were any better than Washington or BYU. The schedules are more comparable than most of us are willing to admit.

Once again SabanFan comes to LSU's rescue, and I will get labeled a bandwagon fan.
Very good teams destroy Troy, Vandy, Oregon State and Ole Miss. Mediocre teams get by.
This is the last I will bring this up, as I am not one who posts this in all kinds of threads. I thought it was relevant to the whole lack of respect thing that gets played out ad nauseum. I was leading that cheer last year, this year I can see the games and our team who is getting the respect it deserves...that of a top 15 team.
You want to talk about lack of respect, try ASU who lost to only USC and Cal and is ranked 6 spots lower than an Iowa team with the same exact record and who they beat 44-7.

I will agree with you on the fact that our D does not get nearly enough credit, even on this board. But our very poor offense and terrible job of fundamentals offsets our great D.

CNS is an amazing coach, no doubt about it. However, it's hard to put him ahead of Stoops and Carroll in a year that LSU doesn't have a single win over a ranked team. I say it's Stoops, Carroll and then Saban - I also think Saban would be where Carroll is if he were at USC, but Carroll is there and has done an amazing job - I still hate him...

And BTW, my original point was Spurrier failed to mention Saban. I think you have to put those three together in the same sentence when talking about the best coaches in the country. I think Spurrier didn't mention him because he can't stand the thought of not being top dog in the SEC.

Agreed. Last year Saban did get tons of credit, including several Coach of the Year honors. I think it is primarily due to those 2 coaches being ranked 1 and 2 again this year, not out of spite. Either way I am happy to see the jackass back in the SEC. :)

Hmm, I know he's not in Florida anymore but he did a few things while he was there. 6 SEC championships! Saban has 2 SEC rings and will add to that total next season. Nick was just 2 points away from playing for another SEC title this year.

IMO, the 3 best coaches in college football are Bob Stoops, Nick Saban and SOS.

Carroll has done an outstanding job at USC. IMO, he's not up there with the rest of these guys because he only has to play 2 big games a year. I give him credit for winning them. Michigan was way overrated last year when USC beat the in them Rose Bowl.

Didn't mean any offense ( ). Fact is, I get my bristles up when this team is referred to as "not very good", "bad" or "mediocre". The goal is to get the Ws and they do that. I'd like to see what Pete Carroll would have done with this team in this conference. Can you say 6-5?
