No problem. I couldn't just let Loco's statement go unchallenged, so I had to look up the exact numbers. Living in Big 12 country here, I was very aware that the OU program was horrible under John Blake (OU's "Curley Hallman" - where is he now?). And, it was pretty mediocre under Gary Gibbs before that.
Yep, I think fans forget about how the OU program steadily declined after Switzer left in 1988. Gibbs won the first couple of years with Switzer's talent, but faded once his recruits started playing. Blake was simply awful and never had a winning season. 10 years later, Bob Stoops to the rescue...
My top ten list 1 Stoops( Another one I really don't like, I love Carroll compared to this guy, but he is one hell of a coach. Took over a program where they actually were horrified when they tested the players skill, speed and strength his first spring and watched film from the season before. He said UF's scout teams were much better than his returning starters. Has his team in the hunt every year and will continue to do so. Is a great defensive coach and gives his OC pretty much free reign.) 2 Carroll (Has made them better every year, everyone knocks his D but they are very good in a conference that puts many more yards on a D and therefore skews the rankings somewhat. I know, most of you think he is overated and USC plays in a patsie conference but the OOC schools don't put too many yards on his D this year and his halftime adjustments are matched only by Saban. A great defensive coach who gives his OC pretty much free reign.) 3 Saban (Needs to stay in the top 5 year in and year out IMO to be ranked with the other 2 2002 season hurts his ranking in my mind. A great defensive coach whgo gives his OC pretty mucn free reign, see a trend here?) 4A. Coker (we'll have to see if he can continue with his own players and being in a much tougher conference) 4B. Bowden (Say what you want but the man's career has been incredible. Their off years are still pretty darn good. See above note about Coker and tough conferences) 6. Beamer (What he has done in the middle of Virginia at a program that was horrible for years and years is pretty amazing to me, with only Bowden as a contemporary as far as actually having to build a program. We'll see how they do in a tougher conference as well.) 7A. Carr (Michigan constantly gets a top 5 recruting class and he coaches pretty good, My only concern is I am not sure he could do it at another school.) 7B. Brown ( Others say he should be fired, I say they should look at their record before he came and take note that OU is not all that bad of a team to lose too every year. I'm glad we didn't fire every coach who couldn't beat the Bear.) 9. Ferentz ( Iowa is alwys going to be a good program with him at the helm, if he goes to a school with a very fertile recruitng area he will be considered one of the best.) 10A. Franchione ( Hate the guy but he has done a very good job in some tough situations at Bama and aTm. He needs to stay somewhere longer to be ranked any higher.) 10B. Tedford ( If he stays at Cal I think he will end up being the PAC 10 champ on a few occasions and if he leaves Cal, as they are not following through on the promises they made to him, then he will end up at a Big Time program and make believers of us all, IMO.
Damn, forgot Richt, put him in there somewhere I guess. What he has done is pretty darn good too.
you're entitled to your opinion but I think this is the worst post of the year and just in time. Halftime adjustments? Against whom? The Pac 10? why would you be in position to need adjustments except one game a year against Cal. Cal slammed this team and lost due to themselves. Spin it how you wish. OSU? a bad Va tech? a Buddy Teevens coached Stanford????? Ahh no nfl exec in their right mind would take carroll over saban and if you say this is college, well you're right but comparing defensive minds and overall character for you to put him ahead of NS makes me question your credibility. Although I respect your views and enjoy your posts, I just can't allow a free pass here. p.s. you're off your rocker. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
Carroll is a good self promoter. But IMO, USC has not beaten a really good team in the last couple years. I see no evidence that USC or Cal could survive in the SEC or Big 12. So what has Carroll accomplished yet? The sportswriters voting his team number one last year and giving him a free ride this year. Let him win a NC played on the field before anyone mentions him as a top coach.
  Hell, I've known this for years!!!! Anyway, Ill stick to my guns, even Visor Boy agree's with me. And even though I'm an SEC fan I still believe that USC played a pretty decent schedule this year, I think I look at teams from around the country with amuch more unbiased eye than most others. Don't keep the purple glasses on all of the time. I also believe that Va Tech, Cal, ASU, Stanford, Oregon ST and Notre Dame all had pretty decent offenses and what USC has done during the second half this year was pretty imressive IMO. In the second half USC gave up the following: Va Tech scored 3, BYU 7, Stanford 0 after lighting up the Tojans fro 21 in the first half, Cal 7, Arizona St 0, Oregon St 7 and Notre Dame 0. Look at the other teams those schools played and how they scored in the second half and you will see that USC did pretty well. But of course I know I will not change the mnd of SEC guys on this board and don't intend to, it's just my opinion that a guy who is like 34-3 sp far over the last 3 seasons is a pretty darn good coach, much better than most people on our board will give him credit for. :sob: But like you said, I'm off my rocker.
