Anybody see the no call on the last play?

The ref was probably so shocked that the LSU DB's let a receiver get behind them on the last play of the game that he swallowed his whistle.

    take a deep breath, man

You need to chill out, man. I agree with you that we played poorly and were coached poorly. I also agree that we never should have been in the situation to lose the game on the final play. Having said that, it is worth noting that Travis Daniels got flat out pushed in the back, preventing him from making a tackle he would have made to save the win. Period. I'm not "blaming" the loss on bad officiating. However, we do, presumably, have refs on the field to make sure the rules are followed and to penalize teams when they fail to follow the rules--if not, then why are they out there? The point is that Travis Daniels clearly was pushed in the back, there is no doubt that it was an obvious penalty and the ref should have thrown a flag. He didn't, we lost, end of story. There's nothing to "suck up" so step away from the computer, take that deep breath, get yourself back together and think twice before you go off on your next little explosion.

Doesn't matter. Blow an assigment that badly on an obvious passing down and you deserve to lose.

I'd rather lose like we did than "win" due to a ref's flag saving a terribly blown defensive assignment.

Have to admit that blown safety coverage in last night's Sugar Bowl was even worse, IMO. What's so difficult in convincing the FS to not freaking bite on anything and simply not let any WR get deeper than you on the play?

I've watched the play a bunch of times and I have to be objective and fair to say that it WAS a block in the back... I'm still not sure that Daniels would have made the tackle, as Holloway is a very stocky dude with all of his momentum going forward... If Hinkel would have been called for the penalty, he would have been the goat.... Regardless, it WAS a blown coverage assignment, a perfect pass in a do-or-die situation, and a great catch... I'll just say I'm ecstatic with the no-call and that such a great game wasn't decided by a penalty.

No, but it should have been. How would you have reacted had the situation been reversed?

Of course LSU played TERRIBLE coverage on that last play. The fact is though, Daniels was in a position to make the tackle at around the 10 yeard line and was pushed down. It is difficult to watch that game again, much less while actually clearly seeing what happened. Couple that with the other obvious blown call on the play, it is very hard to simply call bull*** and "suck it up"...... as you so eloquently put it......

Was I the only one that saw that a flag was indeed thrown? A couple seconds after the play, a ref near the middle of the endzone threw a flag as the Iowa dogpile began. After he threw it, he looked really confused, like he didn't know what to do. Following this awkward hesitation, he picked the flag back up and ran into the locker room with the rest of the refs. Is it possible that he actually wanted to call the penalty, but decided against it due to the massive celebration that was already occurring?

No doubt, clearly pushed. I was surprised that no one mentioned this earlier. Spilt milk.

I think that was an excessive celebration penalty. Once he realized the game was over he picked it up.
