A lot of untested names there, especially at cornerback and DL. I wouldn't be surprised to see the offense carry the defense through the first half of the season.
My two cents for next season: QB - Mettenberger, Rivers, Bolden RB - Hill, Blue, Hilliard FB - Copeland, Neighbors WR - Beckham Jr., Wright, Boone WR - Landry, Leslie, Dural TE - Dickson, Gordon, Smith, Stokes LT - Collins, Hawkins LG - Williford, Austin C - Porter, Washington RG - Turner, Fanaika RT - Alexander, Edinburgh, Jr. DE - Rasco, Bower DE - Hunter, Allen DT - Ferguson, Johnson, M. DT - Johnson, A., Thomas LB - Barrow, Louis LB - Feist, Welter, LB - Alexander, Jones CB - Collins, White CB - Mills, Thomas S - Loston, Thompson S - Martin, Eugene The LB's and some of the OL second string are the major areas of uncertainty for me. I assumed that Collins would be moved to LT with Williford returning and for the LB's there are several who could start IMO. If anyone has feedback on the LB or OL situation, please feel free to correct me. We will be young but man, we'll have plenty of talent.
I think they would have moved Collins to tackle last season if they were going to. I hope Fanaika will break into the starting lineup. Junior College transfers are usually expected to be able to start. I realize Fanaika is a bit different. The film on this Pocic kid is fabulous and he's already here and working out. If ever a freshman could contribute . . .
Pocic is one of the recruits I'm most excited about. He looks very promising. Very athletic for a guy that large. Also, I feel like Deion Jones will be a starter by some point next year. He never failed to get my attention when he was on the field last year.
If I'm not mistaken, Collins actually was a tackle prior to coming to LSU. They moved him to guard last year to start. I like him for the blind side, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the other young talent is given the opportunity. Maybe Alexander switches to LT and the youngins can duke it out for RT in the Big Cat drill.
Yeah, I would agree about Collins; I just wasn't sure on who might take that spot and with Williford returning, we'll have five guys with experience starting. I would also love to see someone like Fanaika make a big enough splash to warrant starting or at least serious playing time. I suppose both he and the WR, Leslie, will be expected to contribute right away.....why else sign a guy with only a few years of eligibility left, right?
Nice thing is after watching the attrition eat at the line last season we now have a few"capable" bodies that can fill any holes. Depth is huge at O line playing in the SEC. Those guys take a beating every week.
Good point. All those injuries last year gave younger guys a lot of experience, and it was against the toughest part of our schedule.
