No, it doesn't depend on where they finish. The poll is representing the rankings right now. Please give me a few reasons why they shouldn't be #1, and who should be #1 instead of USC. They were absolutely dominate last year, and have their best players returning. Sure they are losing their ass't coaches, and maybe that will hurt them in the long run, but maybe it won't. If LSU goes undefeated and absolutely rapes another undefeated team in the BCSCG, but we lose Fisher, Pellini (sp?), and a few other ass't coaches and we are anything but #1 in the first AP poll in '06 - this place would be livid. USC is that good, and they should go undefeated this year. I hope they don't, but they should.
NO NO NO!!!!! It represents who the pollsters think is the best team in the nation and who they think will finish first. Do you honestly think they feel that USC is the best team now but will not be when the season is over? Their opinion may change with a USC loss but they feel USC will finish #1 or they would have voted for someone else. If you had a vote would you vote a team #1 that you thought would not finish #1? :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis:
USC scores Va Tech 24-13, took lead in the 4th qtr. Stanford 31-28 Scored late in game to pull out win Cal 23-17 Cal dropped game tying pass in endzone with a few seconds left. The extra point would have won it. Oregon St 28-20 OSU had many chances to score the last few possessions. UCLA 29-24 The socore says it all If this is being absolutely dominate than I need to change by idea of domination. Players lost Star tackles Shaun Cody, Mike Patterson and Manuel Wright, linebackers Lofa Tatupa and Matt Grootegoed, CB Eric Wright and their starting free safety wh omade the defensive calls. They do have to play on both sides of the ball.
How can it represent right now? The media can barely see 30 minutes of the practices. They dont know whats going on right now. No one knows until the games are played.
Scores do not mean everything. They were still dominate all year long. They were the best team in college fb last year.
USC squeeked by several teams, as Dave's post clearly shows. They did not dominate College FB, just a poorly performing Oklahoma Unit with an immobile QB & no WRs (one dimensional attack). USC would have lost probably 2 or 3 games with an SEC schedule. Just because they did not lose one Pac-10 game & the blew out Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl does not make them a Dominant Team. A Dominant USC team would have pasted the easy Pac-10 competition and whipped Oklahoma (like it did). You have drank too much from the USC Punch Bowl, my friend. :hihi:
Excellent Post! Hey, here's another College FB prediction for you and a really nauseating thought as well for SEC fans! Imagine this scenario! The ACC is rising fast and will soon stake their claim as the Premier Conference in College FB despite having only Miami, FSU & VA Tech. They're trying to pass off BC (what a joke) & Virginia as contenders when in fact they're a three team conference consisting of Miami, VT & FSU. FSU has lost its swagger (61st in offense last year) as has Miami. :dis: Here are the Top 5 ACC conference games in 2005. 1. Miami at Florida St, 9/5 2. Miami at Va Tech, 11/5 3. Ga Tech at Va Tech, 9/24 4. Florida St at Virginia, 10/15 5. Va Tech at Virginia, 11/19 Also, the Big 12 has already pulled this off. Texas, the projected winner was posted at #2. :dis: Maybe not this year (Miami or VT) but in the next couple of years, the ACC will pull off the same magic as USC has done in the PAC-10. Why? The ACC has the viewing audience numbers to pull it off. The East Coast/West Coast population centers will call the shots. There will be nothing that the SEC can do. We could easily see an undefeated PAC-10 Champ (USC) vs. an undefeated ACC Champ (Miami or VT) every year. The ACC will stake their claim as the # 1 Conference. In fact, they've already paved the road for it. YOU THINK NOT!!! REMEMBER & TRACK THIS FOR NEXT YEAR: In 2005, Tennessee & LSU were ranked # 3 & # 5, Va Tech & Miami were ranked # 8 & # 9. Next year, watch what happens to these rankings. I'll be amazed if the ACC doesn't gain ground & even overtake the SEC. The whole thing stinks big time and is headed eventually for a playoff, it's got to.
