He did but if he had to choose, I'm sure he'd pick the crystal one... The fact that the AP also gave LSU the trophy was just lagniappe...

Exactly! The cystal is the big prize. The AP is lagniappe but not entirely meaningless. At least in my book.

Do you really care what a bunch of fat, overpaid sports writers think?

I believe there are two separate questions here. One, which was the BEST team in any given season, and, two, who won the championship in any given year? Which team was best in any given year is a matter for debate, and is what makes sports so interesting. Which team won the championship in any year is a matter of fact. I am sure there are sports fans who will argue that the 49ers were the best team in pro football last year. However, they did NOT win the championship.

There are rules in all sporting events. Under the rules agreed to beforehand by everyone (including USC), LSU won the championship and USC did not. To argue that, if the rules were different, another team would have won the championship, is irrelvant.

Whether LSU or USC was the best team in college football is an interesting debate. That LSU was the national champions that year is a matter of fact.

Exactly. Being number one is a poll before there was a championship game created "mythical national champions" and "split championships." Since the advent of a championship game, polls are meaningless.

Exactly. I couldn't care less what ANY poll says. As long as we make the top 4 to be in the playoffs all the polls can burn in a fire for all I care.
