Are children born good, but society corrupts them? Or are children born bad, and society teaches them to be good?

    Discuss.

Childern are born for lack of a better term stupid.

It is through their soical enviroment that they become good or bad.

Even a crack baby if put into a good surrounding after birth would more than likely turn out good.

Niether. They may be borne with certain tendacies like a calm demeanor or short temper, whatever. But whether they turn out good or bad is determined by how the parents raise them, and by who their friends are.

The nature vs nurture argument would go on for 90 pages if we let it. Let's not go there.

I think children are born bad, and society makes them "good" with varying degrees of success.

Children, although innocent, are often mean spirited. Kids don't automatically share, care about others, know not to hit/attack or any other range of basic life skills. Society & parenting teach them to be good, it's not our inherent nature.

It depends on the environment they are exposed too. If we relied on society to make people good we'd be in trouble.

But is not knowing those life skills an assumption of being bad?

Is the natrual instincts of self preservation bad?

You are right that they need to be taught to be good, but there are ones that are taught to be bad also.

Childeren are born into the world ignorant to everything around they may need to be taught not to hit/attack, but if they do those things I do not feel they are capable of having the mindset for it to be anything but self preservation.

Yes. If they don't know better than to not attack people, I make the simplistic assumption that they are bad.

As defined by our current society, yes.

Obviously society can teach bad as well as good. I just mean in general kids become good because of society, not because they are born that way.
