While there is some injustice in what has happened to Vandy this season, I think you could ask any player on that program about their season and they would be happy...wins against UT are so uncommon for the Commodores that this years victory will be something those players will hold onto for a lifetime.

Vandy has been one of the highlights of this season...I've enjoyed seeing what they've accomplished considering the Non Athletic Dept. they operate under.

Six teams. There is your upper tier.

Middle tier = Arkansas, Ole Miss, State -- have good years occasionally

Lower tier = Vanderbilt, Kentucky -- basketball schools

I agree with Parso. I look for Urban Meyer to have more success once he settles in at Florida (if they don't run him off). He's been a good coach everywhere he has been, I think he'll get things together. I have been disappointed with his ability to adjust to the talent he has, but maybe its all part of a larger plan.

Ole Miss and Mississippi St don't look like they'll ever rebound. Vanderbilt was good this year, but had a special team. They would field a competitive team most years. Kentucky ain't doing anything special. Arkansas is a big question mark to me. Is Nutt spent? SO, that makes 4 bad teams (UK, Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss St) 4 good teams (LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia) and 4 middling teams (UT, UF, USC, Arkansas). UF and USC will probably continue to improve.

Arkansas (terrible this year) normally has a competitive squad that can't quite hang with the LSU & Auburn of the west, but could compete for conference titles in a few of the other BCS conferences. the talent level of the PAC-10 and the SEC's lower tier's are about what and what

the difference is the top tier, where the SEC has 4-5 really good teams and the PAC-10 has maybe 2 or 3 at the most

Your top 6 schools are as good a group as it gets... in any conference... however... of late... which is the question raised in the thread... neither Tennessee or Florida have represented the conference with the "power" expected from them.
In the past four years, Tennessee has had eight games against the 5 other "BCS conferences" and ND... they are 3-5... with two losses to ND, a split with Miami, wins over Texas A7M and Duke, and losses to Clemson and Maryland.
Florida is 1-7... with a win over FSU, but also two losses to them, three to Miami and losses to Michigan and Iowa.

If the sos of the SEC is being hurt, these two schools are the culprits. The rest of the league's top teams hold their own... especially Georgia, who is 7-0 ... and Auburn, who other than two losses to USC have done well.

I second that about Florida. Urban Meyer will recruits some high profile players and I think once he gets his QB in his system (#4 Josh Portis), the Gators will finally click and win a lot of ball games.
