Agree. Having more people poorly or not at all trained doesn't make it safer. Look at how many mistakes in judgement police make and they are trained regularly.

Of course they could institute manditory firearms training for teachers who carry.

That is a given, they will have to be vetted and trained before they would be able to do it. Its also voluntary

Terrible idea and will result in a murder, very quickly. Teaching attracts a lot of meek people, and a large percentage of idiots. Not a good combo with firearms.

Even in competent hands, a gun being shot in school has a lot of potential victims in regard to legitimate targets.

Just a matter of time before a student gets his hands on the teachers gun and shoots somebody with it. Arming teacher is a stupid thing to even imagine. Better school security including a trained and armed policeman on campus in some cases makes more sense.

The schools in the bigger districts have policeman on campus, I think the idea here is for the smaller districts that don't have enough police to justify putting one at the school all day.

I see a teacher shooting another teacher before this is all over. Some redneck nellie will get pissed because coach was doing some wrasslin with wanda from the science department and there you go. 2 dead.

Bad idea, I would immediately pull my child from any school that allowed this.

Yes but there are two sides to the coin. Its a sad reflection on what our society has become that it would even be considered for teachers to be armed but on the other hand, how many lives might have been saved at Columbine, Sandy Hook or Virginia Tech by an armed teacher trained it the use of firearms?
If it is every allowed it should be limited to those teachers already licensed for concealed carry. Concealed carry licensees have been proven to be responsible gun owners. Those teachers with police or military experience would not only serve as a possible deterent, they might prevent or help minimize a tragic situation from becoming worse. You, as a retired military man would be an ideal candidate for classroom carry.
