You know, I can see Miles calling Moffitt into his office after learning of this incident and asking him why his players can't knock down a door.

I can hear the hammering in the weight room as I type. A new fitness test will be in place by next season. No playing time until you successfully run through the door.

i agree. which is why i said discipline. he needs to learn that sometimes you gotta back off because the consequences are not worth it.

    Broken record contingent:

You've made it abundantly clear that you believe athletes should be allowed to do whatever they want. That doesn't make it right.

I've said that all along...no matter who the player is or the level of the talent. That "I don't want to be a role model" mentality that seems to be prevalent and seemingly allows some of these guys to think they can get away with whatever they want. Once you put on that uniform you have to handle yourself in a different manner.

Nor does a broken record knee jerk response for suspensions and public floggings make that the appropriate course of action.

    See how that works?

Unless I'm missing something, isn't Chad Jones black?? Granted, I know that in the 21st century, that doesn't always mean anything, but Ace Foyil is pasty white....so unless they are related by marriage, I DOUBT they are related.

And as for the "14+ players" bit...c'mon, man. Don't be THAT fooled to think that just because someone said 14 players on an internet forum or sports blog, that that's exactly how many people showed up. 14 players, huh??? Wow! That's a LOT of pull for a guy that is only a RS-Freshman and a practice squad player. Don't be silly!

I'm sure a couple of players could have been convienced or unaware of the potential ramifications they could get either from a legal standpoint or from the coaches, but 14?!?!?!?! You make it sound like 14 players were out there with riot sticks and bats. Personally, when I was that age, I remember hearing, "there's gonna be a fight" and then running over to see it. You make it sound like Odom had an army with him, ALL ready to beat this kid's head in... :dis:

No freak'n way...Don't believe all the stupid sh*t you read on message boards, dude.

Ugh, ok. ...and how many of us had guns in our apartments while in college??? You would have been lucky to find a ham sandwich in mine...and I had plenty of SHOT glasses, NOT SHOT guns....

IMO, it's not unfortunate, it's a dam shame.

I agree it's okay to "Look" at the worst case scenario but there's a huge difference between that and hanging kids out to dry. In this particular case, had it been one of my friends, I'd have done the same thing.....in fact have and it happened to be college football players involved- I just happened to show up with members of the rodeo team. Was it right? Course not. Was I raised to know better? Definitely. People make bad decisions......too often.

It is, however, that same aggressiveness and competitiveness that makes good athletes/football players; hence, the MANY arrests we see in CFB today. What's unfortunate is that it sometimes manifests itself at the wrong times, under the wrong circumstances, and for the wrong reasons.

I'd be willing to be the one's with/without "Level heads" on forums are the same in real life......in different degrees maybe, but still. Some people have so little postive things going on in their personal lives that, in a weird way, down deep inside, enjoy seeing others fall. That's what makes the tabloids big bucks- the Martha Stewart, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Swaggert, Paris Hiltons.

the bottom line is that there was bad press about this, and bad press can add up into giving a school a bad reputation. none of us wants lsu to have a thug u reputation. but even though now it looks to be much more minor that first reported, the public perception if that happens more than a couple of times turns negative. and a negative perception is not going to help recruiting. teams in the spotlight are also under the microscope.

being a man doesn't always mean being the tough guy. often, it means walking away from a disagremeement or argument so it does not turn into a situation, such as happened here. if charges are/were not dropped, this could be/have been a problem for the young man. i understand that sometimes kids are gonna want to show they are a tough guy, testosterone, and all of that. but sometimes they need to learn to take a deep breath and act mature. save the agression for the field. situations can get out of control, and however unintentional, careers can get flushed down the drain in a heartbeat.
