That's just wrong. Broyles has lead Arkansas to one of the most lucrative programs in the SEC. He doesn't make a lot of bad business decisions.
The SEC needs a better local regional tv deal than Jefferson Pilot. Every SEC game should be on television in some way shape or form. The big ten which has five conference games almost every week and sometimes 11 for non-conference has every conference game on tv somehow. You have ABC picking up a game or two and ESPN and ESPN2 showing games and ESPN+ showing the rest in local markets. 10/8/2005 Wisconsin at Northwestern Evanston, Ill. I actually think the SEC has a better marketing arm/TV contracts than the Big 10, the Big 10 just has incredibly huge markets. With the SEC getting a little more revenue every year I think it's amazing to tell you the truth. look at the size of the tV markets for Big 10 teams compared to those of the SEC.
Cities in Big 10 market in the top 70 of TV homes: 3 Chicago 3,430,790 4 Philadelphia 2,925,560 11 Detroit 1,936,350 15 Minneapolis-St. Paul 1,652,940 16 Cleveland-Akron (Canton) 1,541,780 22 Pittsburgh 1,169,800 25 Indianapolis 1,053,750 32 Columbus, OH 890,770 33 Milwaukee 880,390 34 Cincinnati 880,190 39 Grand Rapids-Kalmzoo-B.Crk 731,630 54 Wilkes Barre-Scranton 588,540 59 Dayton 513,610 65 Flint-Saginaw-Bay City 475,500 70 Toledo 426,520 SEC market area's: 9 Atlanta 2,097,220 12 Tampa-St. Pete (Sarasota) 1,710,400 17 Miami-Ft. Myers-Naples 461,920 81 Shreveport 382,080 89 Jackson, MS 328,350 96 Baton Rouge 305,810 Heck, most of the SEC's big markets are in Florida and the ACC has two big Florida teams while the SEC has only one. The ACC is going to get huge dollars in the future with the markets they have.
Yup, the SEC does well with its markets. I've always wondered about the national ratings with CBS. I wonder if CBS makes enough money with the SEC tv contract when it has to go against weekends where Penn. State is playing Michigan and Ohio State is playing Michigan State. Plus, Wisconsin and Minnehaha is on ESPN and ND is playing USC on NBC. Still I think the SEC is not getting the best deal with local tv. Let's say there's a weekend where there are six SEC games with CBS getting 1 and ESPN and ESPN2 getting 1 each and JP getting 1. What about the other 2 games? JP should do 2 games a week and regionalize the telecasts.
