The Jefferson Parish coroner is now focusing on an apparent heart abnormality. A final diagnosis is being deferred pending a microscopic examination of Pontiff's heart tissue, the coroner said. An exact cause of death will be released when it is complete. Pontiff, 21, recently had been drafted by the Oakland Athletics and was in the process of deciding whether to turn pro or finish his senior year at LSU.
