When you're 69 years old, you tend to say things you later regret. Political discussions often tend to make my blood pressure go up, but anything I write isn't personal. Bottom line. I bleed purple & gold.

I'm not sure I'd pick Tuscaloosa...in fact, I KNOW I wouldn't pick Tuscaloosa but I understand wanting to move from Hawaii. After a few weeks, it's boring as hell. It's an island. Limited space, limited activities, limited job opportunities. You either work in hospitality or you don't work.

If I was looking for a place to retire, it might make the short list but still.....too far to go to get something "different". Still one of my favorite places to vacay though.

Not really. The military has a large presence there.

Clearly I was exaggerating to make a point but in any given year, the military breakdown in Hawaii is; Army 21,700, Navy 14,600, Marines 7,300 and Air Force 5,200. Hawaiian population is roughly 1.5 million. Small potatoes. Military there are almost always temporary, not long term. And very few natives join the service. Really.

The military employs a lot of civilians. Both civil service & contractor personnel.
