Morton Says: "So when should Jimbo have left? After the National Championship season? :nope: Yeah, let's get rid of the OC even though we had the highest scoring offense in the SEC this season. Brilliant." Well if you want to start throwing stats around here are some for you. Subtracting non-conference games here is how the top 5 would look in points per game. Arkansas 27.625 Tennesee 26.50 LSU 24.0 Georgia 23.125 Florida 22.25 So the top ranked offensive team subtracts it's fairly weak non-conference schedule it drops to number 3. That's kinda interesting. When you look closer you'll see that LSU averaged .875 points per game better than 8-4 Georgia. Do you think that's good? I'm not trying to start trouble here merely support my position that you so brushed off as rubbish before even thinking about. You can say what you want but with a very talented and efficient QB and arguably the best stable of recievers in college football and a defense that puts you in good positions consistently you need to score more points than this. You can throw the football so do it. I know if anyone really watches LSU football that you can guess the play many times during a game. I like Jimbo and he has done a good job but he is often predictable and can be stuck on the run even when it ain't there. I know you might say balance on offense, sure but there are other ways to run effectively (i.e. have the defense thinking pass) But you sir are brillant. Maybe you can pass some to me?
See those 2 teams ranked ahead of LSU? We went to their house and outscored them. That is the only stat that matters. You conveniently toss out the "weak opponent" games to support your argument, but a team plays 12 games and when the games are done the teams are ranked statistically. All teams use all games (including "weak" ones that all teams have) and the results are what they are. Just come out and say you don't like Jimbo because you want to outscore every opponent by 3 or more touchdowns.
Dont panic LSUFan910, there is about as much chance is Saban going to Bama as him going to coach Nicholls State... Its a pipe dream they all have, no different then us but they think coaches should be lining up to coach Bama. Saban is NOT interested and not going to Bama. I am suprised they havent listed Parcells Lombardi Carroll and Joe Pa...
I think he has some excellent points. Dont get me wrong, at times Jimbo is brilliant in his play calling. At other times though he is way too conservative, especially against the more elite teams. He then curls up by constantly calling conservative runs or passes. He will then go to the screen, either WR or RB all too often. Teams read it and stop it. The Auburn game is a prime example of horrible play calling. LSU could have won had we thrown more, but instead he played it conservative and ran far too much when nothing was there. Jimbo is a good play caller, but far from great. He does make great calls at times with the misdirection call, but I think it was the Ark game or Tn? He calls a reverse on 3rd 4-5! You do that on first or second down, not on a crucial 3rd down.
