Bama Fans: How Can You Guys, In Good Conscience, Claim 1973 "National Championship"?

Also, Florida was determined to be ineligible for the Sugar Bowl, but awarded the SEC championship trophy. (Had Auburn beaten AMAB, they would have gone the SB instead of LSU) I always thought that Florida should have been sent to the Holiday Bowl to beat BYU--it would have been ugly.

While everyone points to BYU as the worst MNC, they were the only team that year that ended up with less than a loss and a tie. Washington didn't win their conference, Oklahoma lost it's bowl game (to Washington, the eventual #2) and Florida didn't play in a bowl. BYU won because nobody else wanted it.

Florida was later stripped of the SEC trophy, but I don't think they ever returned it to the league.

Yea like they took Florida's SEC title in 1990. They Just didnt want Florida to win it I guess. They couldnt stop Florida won in 91, then lost to Bama in 92, Then won four in a row 93,94,95,96, then went on a slide, Lost to bama in 99', then won in 2000. That was the last. So far...............

Yeah, and they're also supposed to unanimously vote for the winner of the NC game as number one in their pole. Apparently some coaches are rebels.

 

Remember how the writers were all saying the sauna-romping thong-wearing trojans should be voted #1 by the coaches? The coaches were criticized for honoring their agreement with the BCS. Why didn't the AP voters vote for Auburn or UF in those years?

 

Ask us Bama fans what we think about 1966? Coming off back to back NC's and the only undefeated team in the nation yet finished behind Notre Damn and Michegan State who played to a tie. We claim what the polls give us. We could actually claim more that have been awarded to us but the fact we have more than most simply makes some fans think they have to try to discredit us to make themselves feel better. We listen to it year after year.

Yes, the AP poll can rank a team on probation, the Coaches Poll cannot.
