I agree. Including players who leave for the pro's is a bad idea! It penalizes schools who recruit great players.
There is no penalty for kids leaving early for the pros as long as they were in good standing when they left, i.e., passing grades. If they enroll for the spring semester, get taken idn the draft and qiut school, getting F's, it counts against the school.
My error then. I could have sworn I read that kids leaving for the pros counted in the formula. And I very well could have. The Oklahoma City Daily Rag isn't exactly known for great reporting.
Your wrong Hawker, it definately has an effect if they leave and have good grades. The way the formula works is if they are in school AND have passing grades they get whats called a "2 for 2" score as it relates to APR. If they leave school and have good grades that players is counted as "1 for 2". If they leave and are not passing they get a "0 for 2" score. Read the NCAA guidlines and it will be clear to you. I've been an NCAA junkie since we received the NCAAZ'I witch hunt back when Dale Brown was our B'Ball coach. I watch em like a "HAWKE"...no pun intended.
It's all at www.ncaa.org ... check it out. Student athletes who leave in good academic standing do not count against the team's APR. I would say it's in black and white, but it's really only in black.
It does hurt when a kid leaves early or transfers out in a sense. Instead of getting 2 points a school only gets one point, if he was in good academic standing. In football that is ok but in basketball that will hurt due to the low numbers.
It is in black and white Hawker but you're not comprehending it for some reason. Look here: http://www2.ncaa.org/media_and_even...ne/2005/02_14_05/front_page_news/4204n04.html Here is a direct quote from that page: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SA enrolls full time, earns eligibility for spring semester, but leaves midyear. Eligible + Not Retained = 1 Total Points Earned/ Total Possible Points 1/2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ So I stand by my statment that a player leaving early for the pro's is a mark against the school even if that player is in good standing.
