What Saban doesn't get is that you must be balanced passing and running. 106 yards of passing just won't get it done vs Ole Miss, Tennessee or LSU. They will lose multiple games in the 2nd half of the year with this approach. They could have used this game to get Julio some more touches, JPW more confidence that he can get the job done. This game has Bama taking a step back. It will come back to bite them.
I doubt that BAMA will suffer from the UGA syndrome, that is win and drop down in the polls. Since we're ahead in the polls that matter I could care less if BAMA stays at #2 in the AP.
they are reluctant to have sarah jessica take over a game. you know nickie. get a lead and let the d take over. conservatism is only good in politics. but this was a huge letdown game for them and they won. thats all that matters. this isnt half the team we are going to face down the road. cody does look like 350 lbs of chewed bubble gum though.
I understand the logic behind that. But since they are a western division rival, you want them to lose as many games as possible. It's more important to shore up the West than to bring down highly-ranked opponents. I think that Bama is not quite as bad as they looked today, but they are also not as good as they looked in the first half last week. UK today served as a great reminder that this is still the SEC (in case last week wasn't enough of a reminder), and that everyone is vulnerable every week. Bama still has to play Auburn, Ole Miss, and Tennessee in addition to LSU, all of which will test them at least as much as they were today. I think they've got a ways to go to prove to me that they are the second best team in the country. In fact, they may have peaked too early in the season.
In theory, it didn't get it done today either. Remember, Hartline GAVE Bama 7 points. But Bama won. Can they avoid what happened last year after their bye week? Also, this game showed that Georgia's 30 points in the second half last week was not a fluke.
That is what happens when you lack depth in conference play. And this is why we have a huge advantage in that regard, particularly on defense.
Saban gets it, they dont have to be balanced right now. The year we didnt have a solid defense Ro and Reed mauled everyone through the air. they havent had to throw the ball yet so they are still somewhat of an unknown. why would you throw it when you can run for 300? true, and they moved the ball all game long. they shot themselves in the foot and for us i would have liked for them to have been on cloud nine for the next two weeks., instead they came back to earth and have an off week. prob. a good scenerio. bama would have lost games like that in the past.
Bingo. We're not 'ready for prime time' yet, imo, but we're winning the games we should. Doesn't matter how ugly, a 'W' is a 'W'...
