I think Steele has more authority over the Bama D than Smart. Both were thinking about leaving Bama last season, so Saban made both of them happy by promoting both of them. Smart to "DC" and Steele to "Assistant Head Coach, Defense." But yeah, of course, in the end, Saban has the final word, he is head coach. But I think Steele would be a bigger loss to Bama than Smart.

He's actually a Bama native. From Montgomery. He played at UGA and was a graduate assistant there too. He coached the DB's at Valdosta St., FSU, 1 season with LSU under Saban, also under Saban at Miami, and now with Saban at Alabama. He's a very young but accomplished coach...
