Oh, ok. So the beginning is not being affected at all I take it? That's not a big deal. Way back in the early cretaceous period, in '89, we just left from the LSU to the tunnel, there was no turn to the east. I think that started several years after I was gone. Exactly what were the students saying?
Oh, well, I've never heard it, of course I haven't been in or near the student section during a game since '90.
I think it is immature and in bad taste to yell obscenities during cheers. I guess once you grow up you realize how stupid it actually sounds.
I don't know where your seats are, but from the far side of the U on the field I could hear the students crisp and clear every game my last year in 2004. Of course the pc answer from the band department is that they are changing to a faster tune to flip it because they are now playing 2 verses of the Alma Mater creating a timing issue, and that it really didn't have to do with the vulgarity. But the band and former band members know that we never play tiger rag from the top in our own stadium. In four years, I played it once from the stands in Tiger Stadium and I am pretty sure it was by accident when one of the graduate assistants told the drum major to play it. The looks on the directors faces was priceless. PS. They started flipping the LSU back in 2000 when the East upperdeck first opened.
Oh, you must have been the sober guy  Beam mysteriously affects my hearing, I can't hear people say "Stop that, you can't sing" or "Quit, he's gonna kick your ass" I've been in SU15 or EU 21 for the past 10 years, I guess I just didn't pay attention to it.
Tiger Band used to play all of Tiger Rag all the way through after Field Goals and after the extra points, but it all changed in 1987. After Tiger fans invaded and had half of the seats against GTHOM in Jackson, some GTHOM fans were upset that the tiger fans were so loud with the chant. The letter to the Advocate hit on the Tuesday after the next game, a loss to Alabama. Apparently, somebody also said they could hear the chant over the TV during that game. So it changed to playing the fight song after the kicks. I was suprised when it was brought back for the pregame turn to the East stands. I am also glad enough people yell "L S U" at the end of the "Geaux Tigers" cheer to keep it from the chopping block. GEAUX TIGERS
Then you are part of the problem. Joe Dean banned Tiger Rag during his tenure because of this. It was brought back in hope that a new generation of students would behave. But no. Some folks would rather act like fools and get a traditional school song banned for it. It's pathetic.
Yes and no, is it the best idea to make vulgarity a part of pre game, I say no. However the student section could shout whatever they want during any other song, so will they eventually ban the band if that happens? I think it's making a mountain out of a mole hill and possibly making the situation even worse.
Nobody wants the students to be inhibited. But LSU can't make it appear like the band is orchestrating the ********* chant. And I don't think the students are trying to foul up the Tiger Band look would start up some other vulgar chant to accompany a traditional fight song. But they have made Tiger Band look bad and they have gotten Tiger Rag banned again which is inexcusable.
