actually we can agree on all of it just the comments about we are LSU and should win by so many runs or hit so many hits. that does not hold water and I think you know that now.

I know dude. I didnt mean for it to come off like that. It was meant more to say that LSU should be spraying the ball all over the place against a guy who has like an 8 era. You make a lot of good points also.

    Tirk:

I think you make valid points, but batting .257 in the SEC is terrible considering the lineup that we have. We have to wake up the bats if we want to make run for Omaha.

I know you are passionate when it comes to baseball, and I value your insight, but I am simply looking at the baseball program on the macro level which since Lavall has arrived, I feel that program has slipped from the level of play that we had in the 90's. My expecations for this year is to make to CWS and win some games not go 0-2 like we have been doing.

    It is baseball! Stuff happens!

We are above .500 in the best league in the nation...

Be happy we can do this with a 'TERRIBLE' team

Nobody said the team was terrible. LSU is a good group of players. They just dont seem to be a team. They dont carry around the same swagger they once did. Or maybe they think that b/c they are LSU, things will come easy. I dont know what it is. But, the pitching has been good. Terrible teams dont have good pitching in the SEC. But, the Offense is Terrible. With the guys they have on that line up, RP being the only guy you feel comfortable with at the plate in a big spot is pretty bad. It's not going to be a cupcake tom against rice either. Two ranked teams going at it. Rice is only 4-5 in conference, but they have played some damn good teams in the non conference. They have played 5 teams who are currently top 20 programs including number 1 Texas. Should be interesting. But, just playing them doesnt prove anything, you have to win to prove something. They beat two of those teams. But, I'm a believer in its better to lose to good teams then crush garbage teams. You learn a lot more that way.

Shut up crappy. Don't let Breaux's 7+ ERA fool you. This guy has been on fire as of late. I've seen a lot of Tulane games this year and NO ONE wrapped up their batters like Justin Breaux did last Tuesday (exception is the guy from Cal State.) Sure the frosh had a rough start early on in the year, but he's shaping up to be our Friday night guy. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see LSU lose this game because they need a win in any way possible. However, Nicholls is my school and a win by them tonight would have helped THEM out a lot more than LSU. Before I get some nasty remarks, let me defend myself by saying that LSU has been, and will always be, my favorite school. But, eventually, I'll be a NSU alum and they have a special place in my heart. Just because Nicholls is a small school that does not place ANY emphasis on athletics (Dr. Hulbert is the ABSOLUTE WORST thing to EVER happen to Nicholls State--but that discussion is going to be saved for another day,) doesn't give anyone the right to disrespect them or any team. This is baseball... Any team has the potential to beat any other team on any given day--regardless of rankings or other useless statistics.

    Thats Scrappy :)

This is not just the NSU game I'm referring to. This offense has struggled all year. With the talented bats this line up has, I dont see why they are struggling so much on offesne. Especially in SEC play. In regards to playin NSU, I dont care who they put on the hill, LSU should be able to mustard more offense then they did tonite. Look at what they did to this same team earlier this year. That was against NSU's best pitchers. Breaux had 7 appearances 6 starts yet he's only pitched 18+ innings on the year? 11 of those coming in his last two starts. He has a 7.71 ERA? LSU lit him up last time? He looks to be a streaky pitcher. He pitched 1/3 of an inning to start a game agasint TXST then got hot the next two games. Sure, the guy is pitching well as of late, but still, LSU should have lit him up. It's not that they didnt hit the ball, they had 11 hits. The problem is, they lack the ability to bring in runs. They leave men on. LSU has so much talent in that line up that I dont understand why they only had 3 runs. I cant fathom why this team is hitting on .257 in conference play. Hats off to Breaux for pitching well though. Same to be said for Nall and Faircloth.

I don't need a list of stats and quotes on each team since I follow both religiously. Now, what "I'm" saying is that this is baseball. Surely you know that weird things happen in this sport, and it is why baseball has always been my favorite sport, why I'm going to school to be a sports journalist, and why I love LSU sports as much as I do. I find it surprising how you're talking about talent. Sure LSU "seemingly" has talent, but every school wants to win, especially in the SEC. It's not always the best talent that wins, it's the guys who WANT TO WIN that win games. Right now, LSU seems to not want to win. Say what you will, because if they wanted to win, they sure as hell wouldn't be playing the way they are. Scrappy, (and my mistake for the typo earlier, you have to admit though, that it was fitting :p ) you have a sports show or something and I'm sure that you of all people would realize that it doesn't matter what talent you have if that "talent" doesn't want to play; or if that talent thinks that everything will be handed to them because they are LSU. I'm not trying to insinuate in any way that LSU's problems are because of a lack of desire to win, I'm just saying that it seems to be the most probable answer. Another thing I'll mention that I probably shouldn't get into is that LSU has been recruiting the wrong guys lately. They need to STOP trying to land every big guy who can hit the ball a million miles. Start recruiting more guys like Chris Jackson, Michael Hollander, or Blake Gill. Those guys are well rounded players who can do it all and they WANT TO PLAY, and WANT TO WIN. Quit getting guys that have the talent to walk on to any team they want, recruit guys that fit YOUR team. Recruit guys who will do everything they can to gel and win as a team. I like how Tulane recruits. I like how USL recruits. I like how a lot of the teams in the SEC recruit. I don't like how LSU recruits. Now I'm starting to rant, but in the end, it comes down to how bad you want to win. I'll agree that LSU has the talent to do scary things, so obviously that isn't the problem.

Good post. Also, the typo was very fitting considering the circumstances. :)
Now, having said that, this is not just an LSU vs NSU thing. It's LSU as a whole. They are struggling to hit the ball. This would have been a great oppurtunity to boost some offensvie confidence with 4 big games coming up. I just dont see scoring 3 runs off of NSU's worst pitcher ERA wise and then getting shut down for the rest of the game by a guy that had an ERA around 5 going into the game will do that. I understand your comments about talent and how you should get the guys that want to win and all that. But, if you dont recruit the studs, and you have a crappy season, then the fans get your ass for not getting the big name 5 star guys. So then your screwed there. It's obvious though that LSU has so many guys that are sluggers and not enough sac bunt type guys. Thats fine if your able to hit the 3 run homer with regularity. But, aside from RP, no one can do that right now. This could really be a make or break 4 games for the Tigers. If they want to stay in the SR hunt, 3 of 4 here would like nice. Again JayB, good post and I respect ur comments man. Well put. If you get a chance you should give my show a listen via the net. I assume your in Thibodeaux?

Likewise about your comments... To me it's not an LSU/NSU thing either, it's just that baseball is such a streaky sport by nature. I'm in Morgan City most of the time, 20 minutes or so from Thibodaux. I'll have to give it a listen man. I'm not disagreeing about the way we hit either. Hell, I'd like to be able to bring the Gorilla Ball back. ;)
