Re: LSU beats Nichols 3-2, Brandon Nall goes 8.1 Let's give Nicholls State some credit for playing hard against LSU. Tulane played them last week and only won 3-1. So either both Tulane and LSU are horrible at hitting, or Nicholls steps up the level of play against the big boys. I believe it is the latter.
Re: LSU beats Nichols 3-2, Brandon Nall goes 8.1 That's exactly why I said that I wasn't trying to insinuate that LSU doesn't want to win. It was merely an assumption--and not really, at that. I've seen their faces, I've been to the games, hell I'm with this team even if they lose out every game the rest of the season, but how can you say that a team with talent will prevail all the time? Look only to the Centenary game my friend. I wasn't speaking in terms of every single game, but every once in a while the team who wants to win usually does--in most cases, in situations with a ranked team and an underdog.
Re: LSU beats Nichols 3-2, Brandon Nall goes 8.1 We're overachievers, as a school, when it comes to the big name in-state schools. I remember last year when we beat LSU in women's soccer. They had more people in John L. Guidry stadium for that game than for a lot of football games. Every time we play Southern, in any sport, we beat them (Football a few years back, Basketball last year and baseball this year.) When we play Tulane and LSU at home for baseball, you better believe those kids want to win more than anything else. They can lose every game the rest of the season and they'd find solace in beating either LSU or Tulane. We came close against the greenies. It came down to the Ump's strike zone. Breaux had Tulane tied up ALL night and then as the innings went on, the Ump wasn't giving him his inside-of-the-plate strike. He ended up walking two in the eighth on pitches that he was striking guys out with earlier in the game. I was RIGHT behind home plate so I saw. It was a scoreless game until that point and then Tulane busted it open. It was a good game. One of the best pitched games I've seen in a LONG time. Against LSU, did you see the attendance? 2500. I couldn't go to the game (damn work, I was looking forward to this game all year) but I had friends there that said it was A LOT more than 2500. They didn't (I guess couldn't) count all of the people standing up because of a lack of bleachers. 2500+ for a home game at Nicholls is big time. Granted, a lot of them were pulling for LSU, but I guarantee you that majority of that crowd would have liked to see a Colonels upset! :yelwink2:
I never said that, didn't even insinuate it. All I said was baseball was about dominating pitching, hits falling in, not putting too much pressure on yourself( as in relaxing, thinking and focusing on the correct things), working hard and talent. The hits falling in and the pitching dominating are the 2 most important factors along with fielding when the talent levels are about equal other than a dominating pitcher. And when I say a dominating pitcher, I am referring to that game, not necessarily a pitcher who always dominates. I happen to believe that in baseball, the most talented team does not always win near as much as in other sports. It's the only sport where the worse teams beat the best teams regularly. Heck, I remember the Braves losing a season series bigtime to a horrible Montreal team in a season where the Braves won like a 104 games. The last 3 years with the Yankess not winning the WS also proves the most talented team doesn't win as well.
Re: LSU beats Nichols 3-2, Brandon Nall goes 8.1 That is what I thought. Before Miles became the Football coach at OSU, the Cowboy fans could beat OU, but lose every other game and they would be happy. Of course, that didn't happen, and when they beat OU under Miles they had winning seasons. Same mentality. That is why the games against other Louisiana schools can be so unpredictable.
May I also remind everybody that the NEW YORK METS swept the NY Yankees last year in a 3 game series??!! In Heaven's name, there is NO doubt that the Yankees were a better team than the Mets in 2004, AND YET, the Mets sweep a three game series. Baseball's a funny game. I make no prediction regarding LSU baseball this season. I was ecstatic (apologies to Ron Guidry)!
u guys can have listened to the game all y'all want. I was there and this chris greer (or sumthin like that) guy (p) for nicholls had a HUGE breaking ball. made my knees buckle sitting there!...his fastball was pretty good also. we hit the ball all over the field, and besides the 11 hits, most of the outs were hard hits right at somebody. The guys went out there and fought AT nicholls (mind u i believe this is either the first or one of the first times we win at Ray E. Didier field)...a win IS a win, no matter the margin. Geaux tigers, it counts as a win in my book! LSU! :geauxtige :tigbas:
