As upset as I am about the Tigers coming home instead of going to Ohmaha, I would like to commend Smork Laval and the rest of the team. This is a young group of guys who struggled early but managed to turn the corner about mid season and really put something together. This team is not the "Gorilla Ball" club we are used to. They manufactured a lot of runs and made a heck of a run at the end of the season. I for one will certainly have high expectations for Smoke's Tigers next year. A lot of talent returing and a good solid year of coaching the Tigers under his belt, Smoke will get us back to National Champion form next year. That being said, WHEN DOES FOOTBALL START!!! Again, Congrats to the Tigers on a heck of a season. 44-22 not to shabby. Also, please keep in mind that the Tigers still went to the "Sweet 16" of the CWS for the last two years. Yes, we are used to seeing them in Ohmaha, but making it to the Super Regional is still no small feat.
honestly, i still am not sure. i felt really bad for the seniors like chris phillips, who have never been to Omaha. This weekend, our hitting just fell apart at the worst possible time. I think we made a strong run untill the end at our 6th national title and after one year under his belt, Smoke should be ready again for next year. I think it should be best summed up by Wally's comment after the game: "They were meant to go, so let them go and have their fun."
