In 2003 preseason poll, OK was #1, USC was #8, and LSU was #14. In the Prefinal poll, USC was #1, LSU was #2, and OK was #3. All three teams had 1 loss. In 1997 preseason poll, Neb was #6 and Mich was #14. In the Prefinal poll, 11-0-0 Mich was #1 and 12-0-0 Neb was #2. How the hell did this happen?
Numa - a fine quote that recognizes the only method which will remove bias: Indy, you got it: There is little doubt that USC should've been forced to play Auburn for the title. The Trojans got off easy :dis: Just remember, Defense wins championships  Rushing Defense: USC #2, AU #12, OU #13 Passing Defense: AU #8, USC #36, OU #65 Pass Efficiency Defense: USC #5, AU #24, OU #43 Total Defense: AU #5, USC #6, OU #23 Scoring Defense: AU#1, USC #2, OU#14 All stats from the NCAA site: web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/Internet/ranking_summary/DIVISION1.HTML
Pretty much every team is. There is rarely an undefeated season where someone can't point to a certain game and say, man they could have easily lost that. Any title run requires a combination of luck and skill.
That's what I said. LSU picked the right season to only have one-loss. Auburn picked the wrong one to go undefeated. I'd call that luck since you can't actually 'pick' which season to do it. I don't know why you can't just say, 'yeah thats right'. After all, if LSU hadn't lost another game after Auburn, and had another 1-loss season, they wouldn't have even been mentioned in the National Title scenario.
For such a violent sport that is football, we sure have one of the pussiest ways of coming up with "champions". "Eh...this computer says your schedule isn't as good as this Pus-10 team." "Eh...USC would've kicked your azz Buaburn." It's all just a bunch of hot air if you don't actually let the teams play each other...geeze. :dis: And the team that was supposed to match USC's talent to form the "greatest national championship matchup" turned out to be a speed bump...like I said, just a bunch of hot air if you don't let the teams play each other. But yes, let's continue on and try to find out how we can make our current pile of dung smell just a tad better, shall we.
Utah would have played SC a better game than AU. We already watched SC kill AU 2 years in a row and this year more than likely would have been just as bad or worse.
Exactly! Let the teams play the damn game so we don't have to listen to people like you tell us how it would have been.
