With WVU chances at beating Pitt being about 98 percent, let's go ahead and assume it happens. Should Virginia Tech beat Boston College, LSU beat Tennessee and OU beating Missouri, here is what the computer polls should look like: Colley Matrix: #1 WVU #2 LSU #3 Va Tech #4 Ohio State #5 Missouri Billingsley: #1 WVU #2 Ohio State #3 LSU #4 Va Tech #5 Missouri Sagarin: #1 WVU #2 Va Tech #3 LSU #4 Missouri #5 Ohio State Anderson & Hester: #1 WVU #2 Ohio State #3 LSU #4 Va Tech #5 Missouri Massey: #1 WVU #2 Va Tech #3 LSU #4 Georgia #5 Ohio State Peter Wolfe: #1 WVU #2 Virginia Tech #3 Oklahoma #4 Missouri #5 Ohio State #6 LSU This would yield: 1. WVU.............. 1.000 2. Virginia Tech.... .930 3. LSU................. .920 4. Ohio State....... .880 So it does appear that Virginia Tech winning does more good for LSU than bad. First, it keeps another top 10 win on the board (very important). Secondly, Va Tech acts as a buffer between LSU and Ohio State, most importantly. Boston College would not provide the same buffer. In conclusion, LSU's best chance if WVU wins and OU beats Mizzou is for Va Tech to beat Boston College. Oh how I wish Kentucky had made that field goal vs Tennessee. LSU's computer polls would have boosted even more with a win over Georgia, given us a potential 3rd top 10 win (more than likely in most computer polls), and provided an even bigger margin between LSU and Ohio State (probably .940 and .870 instead). Plus a win over Georgia would be much more impressive in the voters minds than Tennessee. There are still going to be some voters that wedge Georgia between Ohio State and LSU, which hurts our chances immensely. Damn you Kentucky. LSU basically has to pummel Tennessee (much like Phat Phulmer pummels a chili cheese dog) in order to have a remote chance at finishing #2 in the BCS under this scenario. Virginia Tech's win would have to be a close nail biter as well. Hopefully the voters have enough sense to put LSU ahead of Va Tech in their polls come Sunday morning. LSU would have to be within 55 points of Ohio State in the Harris and within 30 in the Coaches poll.
islstl, how in the heck do you come up with this stuff? It is impressive. Having said that I don't see anyway that we blow out Tennessee. Outside of Miss St. early in the season we haven't blown out an SEC opponent. Secondly, there is not way we will jump effectively 5 teams with a win. I do appreciate the analysis.
I agree 100% with our BCS Guru!!! Take the emotion away from the 2 Triple OT losses, and the fact that we lost our final reg season game. Take a look at the numbers: #1 You saw what the computers reaction will be given the scenario. #2 No one outside of Columbus, OH wants to see tOSU in the title game- most voters will respond accordingly. My biggest concern is our team. The injuries, distractions and dissappointment of last week. Let's go out there and whip UT!!! :geaux:
National Champions with more then 1 loss.... 1990 Colorado 11-1-1 1974 USC 10-1-1 1965 Alabama 9-1-1 1960 Minnesota 9-2 1958 Iowa 8-1-1 1953 Oklahoma 9-1-1 1942 Wisconsin 8-1-1 1939 USC 8-0-2 (would have happened with no OT) 1936 Pittsburgh 8-1-1 1911 Princeton 8-0-2 (would have happened with no OT) So in all reality... we really shouldn't have a shot at a Nat'l Title this year...
