Now that ND has fallen out of that guaranteed spot, that should be their ass. If they get picked, it is for bull**** reasons alone (ratings). Let's hope people do the "right" thing when the time comes.
Sadly, the name of Notre Dame will get them in the BCS. Despite the fact that LSU would be more deserving. Notre Dame played only two really good teams and were blown out each time. Nuff said right there, they have no argument to legitimize them getting the bid. Besides their marquee name, which isnt fair. LSU will most likely face the winner of the ACC Championship game between Georgia Tech/Wake Forrest. Which should be a good win, but Id much rather play Michigan to show how good LSU really is.
How can the Rose Bowl pass up on a #3-#4 or #3-#5 LSU matchup and go for a lowly BCS ranked ND team just because of the name. ND I see as a project in progress and is not up there yet. That would make the Rose a BS Bowl.
My biggest qualm has nothing to do with who is where in the polls, although that obviously should have some effect. What I am chapped about is the fact the Notre Dame played Michigan at home and loss 47-21. I wish we could have a poll nationwide to see if people would want to see a rematch of Michigan/Notre Dame or see Michigan/LSU. I bet the outcome is almost 2:1 LSU.
Hey, I agree with you holeheartedly. LSU is far more deserving and Im sure the avg national fan would prefer to see LSU get the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl honchos like the ND match up more because of the "prestige" of ND. They like the marquee names of ND/Michigan. I hope that they do the right thing and give LSU the bid. Im tired of hearing how Ohio St and Michigan are so much better.
Hasn't the ND lost a lot of the lustre the past several years in football until recently with the help of Weiss. Still not yet back to the old glory days.....
So true. Despite all that the pollsters and Bowl execs are under the ND spell. All they see is the tradition. Even when ND was pathetic a few years ago they still had a TV deal, simply because of their name. I hope LSU gets the bid, but I dont see that happening.
Watch for Weiss to start scheduling teams that are very beatable but are expected to have decent/good records. The Irish have been getting killed with overly tough schedules over the past 15 years or so (since the program has hit the skids). Weiss isn't stupid. He wants to win first and foremost. You'll still see Michigan and USC on the schedule. He won't go out of his way to schedule any other tough teams so he can get to that 10 win mark and a BCS bowl berth at a minimum.
