Penn State is one play away from an undefeated season, and Michigan is better than Tennesee, but Michigan State is usually good for one huge home upset a year (last year they annilhated previously undefeated Wisky 49-14) so there is definitely a chance
This is true, but on the other hand it would mark the second year in a row that an SEC team ran the table...and got shut out. Even the most in-denial defenders of the current system would have to admit the system's a fraud in that scenario.
Actually, what makes sense to me if to take into account the fact that the LSU team that lost to the now 4-5 Tennessee team had its first game of the season rescheduled, had the second home game rescheduled less than a week prior to the game date as an away game and then had to play a home opener on a Monday night within days of the campus being used as a triage center. Only truly "dumbass writers" would fail to take any of the above into account when weighing LSU's lone loss. Both teams have had seasons to this point that both can take pride in, but LSU has easily had the more difficult road to travel of the two teams. Also, said writers will also take into account that an LSU SEC Championship would come over a Georgia team with an 80-20 fan advantage in Atlanta. Come season's end, a road win (and, with Athens being 70 miles from Atlanta, it's a road game for LSU) over a 9-2 Georgia in Atlanta and a then 9-0 Alabama in Tuscaloosa *may* look just a tad bit more impressive than Penn State's biggest road wins--victories over a daunting 7-4 Northwestern team and a 6-5 Michigan State team that's quit on its coach yet again down the stretch this season. Just maybe.
I agree... to a point. You not only had all that adversity, you had the damn game won. What many voters then saw were the wheels coming off. It was quite sad, actually. You had 'em by the kahunas and let 'em get away. Personally, I thought LSU would handle Bama the same way Miami went in and took care of business at VT. That, to me, was another golden opportunity for LSU to get some big time votes. Miami impressed a lot of people by smokin' VT, nuff said... they're #3.
Disregard anything I say from now until December 16th. Starting to gear up for finals and am running on no sleep.* *As opposed to paying attention to anything I say any other time of the year.
LSU will get enough of a boost in the computer polls with a win over a near top 10 Georgia team to put them past Penn State....unless the human polls screw us. They luvs them some Joe Pa.
You were making good points until App State. Using them as an example is clearly homerism, but I agree with you on the other opponents.
Penn st. is every bit our equal, they have a solid offense, strong defense and good special teams. They are big and physical with decent speed. While I don't agree with all the BCS component polls, I don't think it's a 'travesty' that PSU is ahead of us in terms of which teams are better than others.
We need a nice sweep by Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia of their ACC opponents over the next two weeks. That would to some wonders in turning around our SOS and the SEC's computer strength.
