I would tend to believe that for any playoff system to be agreed upon, the top conferences (currently the "BCS" conferences) would need guaranteed spots for their champions. Otherwise there is not much hope for any sort of a playoffs to happen imo. Note: When I say playoffs I do not mean something based on the current bowl system.

This is what many people fail to see. A four team playoff with two travel games for fans may be possible.. Beyond that, the costs escalate. Especially during the holidays.

Conference commisioners and university presidents are getting cash and gifts that they wouldn't get without the bowls. They and the bowls are the only ones who stand to lose anything.

I completely agree with this, but I think they would agree with a maximum rating limit.

An 8 team playoff is possible if the first round is a home gome for the higher ranked team, as I stated in my proposal.

That's why I said two travel games for fans may be possible, but beyond that would be difficult.

Something else to consider. LSU participates in a eight team playoffs that are back-to-back-to-back weekends. LSU advances to the championship game.

How on earth does the LSU athletic department distribute the requested tickets quickly enough each week? It's a nightmare situation already. :hihi:

Considering the money they would make on a first round playoff home game, and the idea of advancing in the playoffs, I think they could work out the ticket situation. Why would having the first round as a home game be difficult?

The secondary bowls (all but the BCS bowls) could carry on independent of the playoff. So there wouldn't be too much dropoff.
