I miss LA. too! Small towns seem to have the best stuff. Mamou, Opalousas, and Ville Platte are my favorite eatin' spots.
When it comes to stuffed chickens and stuff of that nature Luke's in Ville Platte can't be beat. Some place in Port Barre, I think it's called Hebert's, has some good seasoned ribeyes. For good fresh pork sausage (green) not seasoned, good for some rice and gravy, Bordelon's in Plaucheville is the best.
Don's Specialty Meats in Carencro for Boudin. I've been to Best Stop many times and Don's beats em by a mile. Webster's meat Market in Cecilia has decent B & C.
J2K, Luke's does have some good stuffed birds. Is the pig stand in ville platte still open? SabanFan, Don's Specialty Meats in Carencro? Sounds interesting, what street is that on? When I travel back to La. I usually am in either in B.R. or Lafayette. I would like to swing by the next time I'm in the Lafayette area and try Don's out. Any rival posters who visit better right this stuff down. This is some serious insider info!
I have no idea. I don't go to Ville Platte that often, mainly Avoyelles parish. I can ask someone from VP though.
Hebert's in Maurice has some of the best stuffed boneless chickens that I've had, also some good turduckins. I'll have to go w/ Best Stop for Cracklin but I haven't tried some of the other places listed to give a comparison. On a side note the best hamburgers i've had are at Morvaunts (sp?) in Youngsville, and best Pizza is at Pizza Village in Lafayette
Take I-49N off I-10. Go to the 1st exit past the Evangeline Downs Racetrack. Exit right then take an immediate left onto the service road. Don's is on the right about a mile (or less) just off the service road.
