This is a little known secret, but Menard's Grocery in Cankton has great boudin and very good cracklins. I add some Tony Cacherie's to the cracklins to jazz them up a bit, but they have a lot of meat on them. The place does not have the stuff all the time, they only make it once a week and when it is sold out, it is gone till the next week.

My mom lives in Cankton :) .

I like it better than Best Stop. Best Stop used to be better.

    I Miss Tiger Land Too

Speaking of missing Louisiana, I currently live in Yokohama, Japan? Now thats a little drive from LA.

Try finding boudin and cracklins here. Read all the threads on this link and I'm craving for some good cajun food. I can manage to find a few ingredients to make some of my own stuff, but not easily accessible like back home.

One real treat which I really love here, is Sashimi. (Sa-she-me) Its raw tuna, like sushi, but no rice, just a slab of tuna. I sprinkle a little Tony's on it, sear it for about 5 seconds on each side to get a little flavor on the outside, and the inside is raw and cold. Its absolutely delicious! Spread some wasabi on the outside and it melts in your mouth.

    Go Tigers.................

    The Boudin King

I grew up in Jennings and always had plenty of that Boudin King Boudin. I remember when his place was a little store and he sold the boudin from his meat counter, later he closed the store and turned the place into a restaurant. Mr. Cormier died a few years ago, but his family still runs the place. My oldest sister was in school with his daughter, she was known in school as the Boudin Princess. Robideaux's in Iowa is also very good. In the BR area, I like Jerry Lee's and Bergeron's.
    My $0.02.

    Guys,
You all came up with some really good places. I've tried them all and there are no bad ones mentioned ... but Ville Platte, Eunice & Opelousas are the best when it comes to the cochon, and I mean chunks of fresh pork. Jennings and Boudin King has the best Ricey Boudin, hell that's where they grow rice. There really isn't that much difference ... it's all good.

But, when you can count on a place 99/100 times to be open, consistently good and deliver unbelievable quality on both items, you've got to load up and fill those ice chests.

I really sympathize with those out of state ... But ... if you really want it ... Ray's in Opelousas can overnight you frozen boudin (Billy's brand is the spicy, Ray's brand is mild). Hope that does the trick. Now, I don't overly sympathize with you as I now live in .... no shiiiiiitttttte.... for the last 3 years

SAUDI ARABIA .... NO PORK, NO LIQUOR ...............SUFFERING IS A STYLE OF LIFE HERE.

YOU ALL GOT IT MADE IN A SHADE. THANK your lucky stars next time you snap into a fresh link of boudin. I GET 6 weeks off from ARAMCO each year ... in FALL ... and make it home to Louisiana during the time when I can get the most home games in .... and engage in an orgy of boudin, cracklins, gumbo and beer ... see my old pal Don Long and my Gridiron club buddies and watch the Tigers.

Life will be good again after 46 weeks of NO PORK, NO BEER.
See you guys in October. I'll be the 6'3" 290 LB monster "snorkelling" his boudin in West Section 2, LOL

    Boudin Tasting as LSU games

I think someone should organize a boudin tasting at one of the LSU games. Let all the Boudin vendors come, so we could sample the Boudin. Boudin really is a great tailgate food, no untensils needed, goes well with beer and unique to this area.

Do those places have boudin all year around? I remember it being a winter food.
Of course, I remember that red/blood boudin, too from when I was a kid- I think that's illegal or something.
And pardon my further ignorance of a 42 year south La resident, but what is a cracklin?

    cacklin

Obviously it is the cajun form of cocaine that is boiled rather than smoked in a pipe. It is more addictive than crack and is actually recommended by the FDA for the treatment of skinny people.

    Hope this helps.

How can you weigh 290 pounds if you don't have any pork or beer? Dude, you are deprived! I'll send you a care package of Beer, boudin, cajun smoked ham, pork roast and pork chops if those ungrateful bastards won't cut your head off over there for being an Infidel.
