Agree with that. Buckingham, another fingerpicker like Mark Knopfler. I would put these two at the top of my best guitar player list because of that style. They can just do so much more with a guitar than a flatpicker. Some things they can't do though, like heavy metal. Personal preference in play, as always.

What I really like to hear is a bass player totally in sync with his drummer. Not all of them are.

McVie and Mick Fleetwood was such a pair. Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts. McCartney and Ringo. Moon and Entwistle. Pace and Glover. Peart and Lee.

Beat me to it!!! In case you didn't know, Maiden is my favorite band of all time. Steve Harris plays the bass like a lead at times, so to me, there's not a better bassist alive than him.

Geddy Lee/Alex Lifeson a very very close 2nd.

See afore mentioned Steve Harris/Nicko Mcbrain. Hate to keep beating a dead horse, but admittedly I'm biased.

Dusty Hill and Frank Beard. All those guys you mentioned played together for years. That's why you almost never see that in a local band no matter how talented they are. They usually keep changing members. I don't know their names but the bassist and drummer for the Radiators are totally in synch too. Those guys have played together for about 40 years.

Go with the older stuff. Piece of Mind is my favorite CD, hence my family guy avatar of that album cover.

Number of the Beast and Powerslave are good too. They starting mellowing a bit afterwards, but that's only natural when you're pushing 50, I guess.

The song I included is based on the movie Dune. It starts out slow, so give it time to kick in. Kick ass bass lead that dominates the song. More impressive when you consider Steve Harris plucks with his fingers and not a pick.
