Re: Big Ben cut by Bengals I can see the point about not leaving him in, but you did recruit those guys to play and if they want to stay in the game and play, you cant find a problem with that. Unless of course the freak accident happens. Then the coach is a dumbass. I'm willing to bet saban left big timers in games like that more times than not and there werent injury's. Things just happen
Re: Big Ben cut by Bengals It's easy to second guess after the fact, but I'm with Fighting Tiger. Ben or any other starter shouldn't have been in the game. And I would be willing to go out on a limb and state that Nick would probably agree after the fact. I'm sure he feels as bad as we do about Ben's injury. And I understand the point very well that injuries can occur at any time.
Re: Big Ben not cut by Bengals but put on the...... Thats fine. As you said, it is just so easy to second guess this stuff. 99 times out of 100, you leave a guy in too long and nothing happens. He just plays some extra downs. But, there is that 1 time when it happens. I would seriously doubt that Big Ben has any animosity towards Saban and that Saban feels bad that it happened. I know that even when I was a starter in basketball and were up by a lot, I still wanna play. I know that it is the mindset for most players.
Re: Big Ben cut by Bengals I'll agree with FT on this. If you are looking at things objectively, most other coaches (including the good ones) don't leave their best players in at the end of a game that is well in hand. Same injury for Mauck. Same for Jack Hunt before the Florida game if I recall correctly. Saban was pretty stubborn about it. I guess you could argue that he was trying to get the kids to play hard all the time and not focus on the scoreboard. Interesting that Saban made a comment this week at Miami after one of his players had to go to the hospital for dehydration, he said "I don't like to admit that football is a dangerous game, as a coach. I'd like to think it's a safe game if you play it safely, and no one ever had to get hurt," Saban said. "But I think that's a little bit of a pipe dream."
Re: Big Ben not cut by Bengals but put on the...... for the record I am not holding Saban's sack or praising the ground he walks on, but the bottom line is that it is his team and he makes the calls. you saw it with Ben, and you saw it with Mauck in the Florida game. Saban was a coach who wanted 60 minutes from his players...blowout or not. and I agree with scrappy...you sign these kids to play full games, so they should expect to do so and play hard every play. correct me if I am wrong, but Ben had inj his knee before this late game play, so maybe it was something that was going to happen anyhow, early in a game or late in it. it is an unknown, and I don't think Saban intentionally but Ben in harms way. Ben will make it back.
