if we didn't run the ball as much as we did, ASU would have had 750yds passing.

Yeah, that 12 minute drive was 12 minuntes that ASU wasn't tearing apart our defense.

I think it's safe to say that the last LSU drive of the CapOne bowl, Jamarcus did very well under extreme pressure. I think it's also safe to say Iowa's defense was very good.

He also preformed decently against a good 2004 Auburn defense.

    As well as Alabama.

And if you look at the defense stats for UAB v. Tenn, TN only recorded 1 sack and UAB had 335 yards of total offense. I'm not ready to judge TN's defense till I see them play again this weekend. So far, it's somewhat unimpressive. Their pass defense still seems to be struggling. Granted, Hackney is a really good quarterback who threw on them.

They dropped 5 that shudda been caught, and most were critical 3rd down convs.

My point, and it's been a hard one to get across, is about predictability & running tendencies. More high % passes on first down would have resulted in fewer 2nd & 3rd & long situations (where Jimbo called pass & LSU didn't convert).

Here's an example of play by play on FIRST DOWNS IN THE FIRST QUARTER. The red indicates first downs where LSU's rushing ended up putting Russell in a 2nd or 3rd and long situation. To keep drives alive, Russell was forced to convert on 3rd and long time and time again. When LSU did start to have success rushing, it was because they forced ASU to do so by hitting some passes and showing pass on the followup play. These passes could have been thrown more on first down, earlier. Tennessee will not be as kind with LSU and will jump on us out the gate if we exhibit these same predictable tendencies.

    Here's the first quarter!

L 1-10 L03 Joseph Addai rush for 2 yards to the LS5 (James, Robert).
The Chris Jackson fake punt & pass kept this drive alive.
L 1-10 L22 Joseph Addai rush for loss of 1 yard to the LS21 (Robinson, Dale).
    This ended in a punt

L 1-10 L01 JaMarcus Russel rush for 1 yard to the LS2 (Darley, Quency).
L 2-9 L02 Shryone Carey rush for loss of 1 yard to the LS1 (Talbot, Mike).

Russell to Carey for 14 yards on third down & 10 kept this alive.

    L 1-10 L15 S. Carey rush for 8 yards to the LS23 (Robinson, Dale).

LSU showed pass again on the play that netted 8

    L 1-10 L28 S. Carey rush for 6 yards to the LS34 (Williams, Jamar).

    L 2-4 L34 Shryone Carey rush for 2 yards to the LS36.
Second down only 2 yards & 3rd down is a motion penalty.
Russell to Craig Davis for 12 yards to the LS43 on third down & 7

    L 1-10 L43 Carey rush for 5 yards to the LS48 (Robinson, Dale;Talbot, Mike).
L 2-5 L48 Carey rush for 6 yards to the ASU46, 1ST DOWN LS (Zach).
OK, GUYS! BACK TO BACK RUSHES FOR A FIRST (YOUR POINT)

    L 1-10 A46 Russel pass to Craig Davis for 18 yards :yelwink2:
So, what play is called on the next first down? They still expect the run, LOL
L 1-10 A28 Vincent rush for 1 yard to the ASU27. They were waitin for run!
LSU should have gone for the home run here!!! Russell has to bail them out again.

    L 2-9 A27 Russel pass complete to Jacob Hester for 8 yards on 2nd & 9.
    L 3-1 A19 Justin Vincent rush for 2 yards to the ASU17, 1ST DOWN

Comment: One pass on 1st down the entire first quarter. LSU playcalling consistently put Russell in the hole. When LSU threw on 1st down, they were successful every time on the drive into the 2nd Qtr.

Here's the second quarter & wrap up of this drive!

L 1-10 A17 Russel pass complete to Skyler Green for 7 yards. PENALTY ASU!

The play worked for 7 yards. This is the kind of stuff we need for Tenn. Result, even with a "no play" is 2nd and 5. Absolutely, wonderful.

L 1-4 A11 Justin Vincent rush for 2 yards. :dis: 6 pts likely with a pass here
L 2-2 A09 Justin Vincent rush for no gain to the ASU9 (Robinson, Dale).
L 3-2 A09 Justin Vincent rush for 1 yard to the ASU8 (Robinson, Dale).

This isn't happening! 4th & 2. :dis: Where's your point, gentlemen. By your comments, we pounded these ASU sissies and ran when we wanted. I gotta call BS on that one!!!
    L 4-1 A08 JaMarcus Russel rush for 2 yards to the ASU6, 1ST DOWN

Next play, Russell was sacked and fumbled.

    19 plays 80 yards, TOP 11:02

BB sux! Have all you want! I don't waste my time. This thread's about offensive tendencies of LSU FB and ways LSU can be less predictable and puts points on the board early against Tennessee.
