God I hope this can be one thing that both sides could agree on and just change. But probably not.

Winston .... Trump is under no illusion that the EO would stand. He’s not seriously trying to bipass the constitution, he is elevating the issue such that congress will take it up. He is trying to get congress to get off their butts and do their stinking job. Immigration reform is long over due. Democrats kick the can down the road because they don’t want reform (they like caravans), and Republicans kick the can down the road because they are spineless and are afraid of being called a racist or some such.

Congress is within their powers to define the legality of what it means to “be born” as it pertains to law, as in to a citizen or legal resident, vs an illegal jumping across the border to have a baby for the purposes of chain migration. Now that the SCOTUS has been returned to a majority Constitutionalist, they will not likely jump into the fray of legislating from the bench, by speculating what was meant based on their own political preferences (like the libs will most certainly do).

I think Trump has been sitting on this one waiting for a favorable SCOTUS.

It could very well be that Trump is setting this up as a 2020 issue litmus test for congress.

He floats the id a of the EO. ..... that gets congress on board to actually pass legislation eliminating anchor babies to illegals ..... it gets challenged in court ....... requires an Amendment ...... Democrats refuse to accept, preventing passage of new Amendment ..... GOP uses it in 2020 election to get the 2/3 necessary in both houses to pass the Amendment.

At that point, it will become a bigger issue than SCOTUS .... and you can bet the Democrats will lose the African American vote, and I would think a good portion of the Latino vote as well. The only votes they’ll keep are a bunch stupid white liberal socialists.

    Just a meandering thought!

White liberal males are the worse. White men have targets on their backs, are hated by the left and blamed for everything bad that happens yet they still vote for democrats, go figure.

I don't think one should serve if they don't have citizenship.

It’s a traditional way to gain citizenship. By putting your life on the line for the US you show your worthiness to become a citizen. What better sacrifice can you ask?

The Dems would never support an amendment. They would lose a huge voting block. 1 in 12 births in the US are to illegal aliens. I think @onceanlsufan is right - he is just forcing the issue to get it resolved.
