Sadly something I can say I never saw. I actually turned the tv off in disgust when UK was running on the field, etc and went outside to work in the yard cursing for about 2 hours saying "How could we lose to UK" only to see about 15 messages on my machine. Saying "DID YOU SEE THAT HOLY COW" So yes I missed it live, I was outside cursing up a storm with my wife saying "calm down its just a game" Equally as sad I have managed to watch several do that very thing to us a few times in different capacities (Arkansas twice, Iowa.....)
I would have probably been in the yard with you EXCEPT I was watching with a Kentucky fan that said we HAD to watch the final seconds of the game so he could take a picture of the TV when it said final to make fun on me for the reast of my life....hehehe!!! The best final I have ever seen. We don't talk anymore....
Also note, one of the things I found very funny about this was listening to the tapes of the UK radio Broadcast of that last play. I never forget their color guy say in disgust "There are students hanging on the goal posts, and I dont know why" and "This is one of the darkest days in UK football history"
I was driving for the first time between BTR and Covington on I-12 in the rain. They kicked the field goal and I cut the radio off. My aunt, an Ole Miss alum/fan, asked what I was doing. I told her, in the wisdom of my 16 years, that nothing could happen. She told me I was silly and turned the radio on in time for the winning play. Remember every detail of that game like it was yesterday (watched the 1st 3 quarters on TV).
My wife was so frustrated with me for cursing the team, for losing to Kentucky. She got the keys and said she needed some peace and quiet. As she was backing out of the driveway, she heard me screaming at the top of my lungs in victory. When she flew through the door, she found a much improved husband....with a new found attitude.
Did Jim Hawthorne ever talk about or own up to screwing up the call- "Jack Hunt", vs. Devery Henderson? I know the LSU athletic authorities changed the taped end of the game substituting Henderson for Hunt, which to me was totally ridiculous. Has anyone ever redacted a broadcast before or since?
